Couldn't help but notice exactly how intricate her hair was styled. Every curve was carefully placed. Stunning work. Have loved her since one was a child. Son of a Preacher Man was another iconographic song. And in those days, it was quite risque!

Yes... because singers like her brought too much of their own true voice, artistry and personality to "be made" in the modern sense of the term in the music industry.

Insane key she does it in. At the end, it changes into an entire whole step higher. This could be Dusty's most impressive live vocal ever. Sang it with her entire body (and in heels. Ha!). Lord knows, she had plenty of amazing live performances but this one could be the greatest in terms of range and difficulty, she nailed it big time.

I always under-appreciated this song until I saw this live version. She’s really something else.
@ZZSmithReal Жыл бұрын
@@frankiebowie6174 I think I recall reading somewhere - the liner notes on the DVD from which this performance is taken? - that this was the first time she performed the song live. The original was Italian and she jumped at the chance to record it in English but did not sing the song live until she did record it fearing another artist would get out an English version first. Elvis recorded another version anyway but his is up tempo so no real overlap. Here's the 1965 Italian version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGS6aKSigr-Hjrs

True.most of 'modern'. - I say this figuratively - 'singers' don't understand it's NOT how long, and how. LOUD,it's pacing, it's undersnding you want to build a song. They also don't know what melisma is (though they mightve heard it, they don't understand), note bending, and Ms Springfield loved when she did her hosting of T of the P, and met - and learnt from many legendary Motown Artists (many of whom started singing in church), and incorporated it into her work, her sound . On a side note, does anyone know who's doing the backup (it's NOT the Ladybirds)?

She just stood there and sang and looked beautiful...really the most powerful yet controlled and classy voices of her era...my own. Dusty made the best of her pained self, and gave the world her talent...OMG, she was soooo gifted.
@loriromano63997 жыл бұрын
Dusty indeed did the world a favor by carrying on despite circumstances and delivering the goods time after time on her endless recordings. Also, she traveled all over the globe delivering live performances that we are still able to see today thanks to You Tube. Had she known about You Tube, maybe she would have felt better about all the 2 minute performances she had to give over the years. She probably thought, "God, it takes me 4 hours to dress and get the wig and makeup right, all for a 3 minute performance that'll never be seen again." Ha! Those 3 minute clips have been viewed thousands and (a few of them) millions of times over. Think she'd be happy about that for the most part.
