Pretty poor shop teacher. Most wood glue seeps deepr into the grain staining it than you would care to sandpaper off. In which case planing would be more effective and efficient. Better to just use a controlled amount of glue. Reduce waste, clean up, 'sanding' & time. But I caught your drift. The best part of your post, you took woodworking. @@gapecaceres I'd like to add that using a cloth is better than paper/shop towels when wiping away glue. If the glue is starting to tack up paper towels will stick and leave bits and lint. Also, titebond is water based. Throw your rags in a bucket of water and swish them around to get most of the glue out. I put a little detergent in too, to sort of prewash before they get to the washing machine.
