I bought a copy of this backpack (brandname GFC) from some airsoft store for around $30, didn't know it was based on an actual mil spec backpack. I've been using the backpack for about a year now, really loving it.

That elatic on the sternum strap. We had that issuein the early 90s on the harness for webbing here in Australia. Nice pack there.

@dogdadoutdoors yeah it is. Something I put on irr short and long back as well as Alice packs. It's an easy sew project most household machines will sew the strap and elastic. A slide buckles either end, faster snap bullet in the middle, easy to put on shoulder straps adjust to size tape up the ends. The Irr long shortbacks were better than we had here and you could use them till the Auscam was all rolled out. Good packs still got them today. A tad heavy, but for a 3 dayer the longback is so comfortable. One thing modified is I sewed up so sleeve shoulder pads 50% wider and 2 layers of sleeping mat. It comfortably ( well as comfortably as that weight can be🤣 ) 25kg. Too old for that now though lol

Nice review! What kind of tape are you using? It has a really nice green colour that gives the backpack a unique look.
@dogdadoutdoorsАй бұрын
Its called 'Sniper tape' from a company called Scapa. Its basically a fabric tape, can be used to wrap equipment to take away any shine and protect it, temporarily mend clothes or make labels with as you can write on it. It does come in Coyote as well.

Thanks for the review. I picked one of these up, here in Switzerland, a couple of years ago and it quickly became my most used bag. Bushcraft, day-hikes, mountain trips, daily use for the gym etc. Probably the one rucksack I would pick if I had to make a choice. Also got a black version (which I think is a copy, as the build quality isn't quite as good) a few years earlier. I don't think there's a better rucksack for price versus features.

I'm really pleased with it, and for £55 brand new, I doubt I could find anything better for the price!

Thanks for bringing this pack to my attention. I'm sure you have been asked before, but what jacket is that you are wearing?
@dogdadoutdoors6 ай бұрын
Yes, I should put it in a FAQ 😄 It's a Helikon Pilgrim in the Coyote Brown colour, a fantastic bit of kit, I have a video on that too. You can get them from Military 1st or Amazon amongst a few other places.

Could Hyena carry a load with the same ease as a Saber 45 ltr. You mention the thick stiff shoulder straps but the minimal back support and consequent lack of rigidity in the pack concerns me
@dogdadoutdoorsАй бұрын
I have both the Sabre 45 and the Hyena and whilst they share many characteristics, they have different use cases. The padding in the back is largely adequate for the 35 litres it is on the Hyena and I've not not packed it and thought it was uncomfortable even when I've stuffed it full. The Sabre 45 does have a bit more padding and a rigid back, but you have to remember with the rocket pouches, that's a 70 litre bag, it needs to be. I'd argue the Sabre is a little more comfortable, but the Hyena is not uncomfortable. I have both and tend to use the Hyena over the Sabre for a day walk, but if I'm going away for the weekend, then its the Sabre 45 for the extra room. For £50 quid, its a fantastic bag. The Sabre is typically a fair bit more expensive, particularly if new.

This one was from preppers shop, they had a batch of them in, I think there were 10 when I first saw them and they sold out within a week. £55 brand new, bargain at that price.

@dogdadoutdoorsАй бұрын
You have to bear in mind its a military bag and a 3 layer system is used. Everything they need to survive will be in their pockets, every thing they need to fight will be on their webbing and the basic tools to live will be in here. Its an assault pack so its designed not to weigh them down, they may have to fight wearing it and so they will only have essentials adn they will usually be getting re-supplied with water, food and ammo from the support group.

I really like it, gives me that robustness and practicality without being too war-ry. I get a lot of soldiers training in my local area so I like to distinguish myself whilst still wearing natural colours. Just today I was out with one of my dogs and got to about 20 feet of 2 soldiers in prone at the base of a bush, didn't notice anything until my dog kicked off!
