I'm a native English speaker from America and I just got interested in learning other languages, so I picked up some cheap books at the local Half Price Books on Dutch and Russian (obviously to be studied one at a time). While I expect Dutch to be a little easier since I can already speak German, it was great to see this video up and really give an auditory representation of these vowels. It was quite puzzling when only reading about them. This is the first result for "dutch vowel" btw. Thanks!

You are quite right. The official Dutch sound for 'ij' sounds something between the English 'ay' and 'I'. But in northern Dutch dialects it sounds more like English 'I'.

No, OU in Dutch sounds like OW such as in OH or DOH (Homer Simpson), which is not the same sound like HOW. IJ or EI in Dutch sounds like EY in English (Y as in WHY is a different sound). the short U in Dutch is used in English such as in ERR.., the longer UU in Dutch is not used in English, allthough it is like the U in USED but then without the 'Y' sound we also hear in YOU. The OE sounding like OO in ENgl is a little shorter pronounced, same for the IE sounding like a shorter English EE.

The dialects in the Netherlands are often more connected to the languages of surrounding countries, than the official language is. Quite a few words are similar or (pronounced) the same in Drents (spoken in the province where I live) as in English and German.

Então acabei esquecendo, e hoje, estou aqui novamente, tentando reaprender meu idioma natal

It is actually exactly the same sound. IJ is called a long IJ(lange IJ) en EI is called short EI(korte EI). There is no real logic in whether to use EI or IJ in a word, you just have to know it.

no you are completely wrong and it comes down again as what I said earlier, because your English pronunciation is not correct. Watch this video watch?v=gwbAZypHqP0 @1:24 she pronounces the word NOW (same sound as HOW she also used int he beginning of the video), listen to it and don't come back telling me it is the same sound as in ROUW, or I have to conclude you're not Dutch! Also at 0:44 at the bottom the sound 'ER' (or 'err') is written as I said earlier sounds like the short U in Dutch.
