When he went to WWF. He became Tag Team Champion, Intercontinental Champion and WWF World Champion. It seems like that WWF saw something in him. I think the reason why that WCW took him back became WWF made him. I might be wrong about that.

When he went to WCW there were 4 guys the same height as him, but with more experience and crucially one of them already had the bodyguard role. They tried gimmicks with him because they saw something in him, but it was just the wrong time for him. By the time he went to WWF, Sid, Spivey, Undertaker and Tyler Mane had already left WCW, so had he just come in there was a spot for him.

I lived in Knoxville in the 80's and 90's. John Tate was a shell of his former self by the late 80's. Big John used to loiter around the neighborhood where I worked on the strip on UT campus. We used to throw him $5 to sweep up the restaurant parking lot. Sad ending.

No way, he was way too green. Sid was the junior partner and even he still had a couple of years' experience. Sid is the one who got hurt and Mean Mark was still a veteran compared to Kevin at that point, so he got the gig. Tyler Mane already had the bodyguard gimmick, so there wasn't really a spot for Kevin on the roster. They obviously saw something in him and kept trying to shoehorn him in with gimmicks rather than make him in to a jobber like they did with Bryan Clark.

I am pretty sure that Nash came in to WCW in late 1989/early 1990 when they already had Sid, Dan Spivey, Tyler Mane and Mean Mark, so WCW had 4 giant guys already. Tyler Mane already had the bodyguard gimmick, Sid & Spivey (and then Mark) all had the ass kicking gimmick, so I guess they tried to do something different with the 5th giant guy. The fact that they gave him 3 gimmicks proved that they did see something in him because some other big guys around that time like Motor City Madman, Nightstalker and Nasty Ned were just jobbers.

Good info. Folks don't realize how green Nash was to the ring in 1990. Scott had already been in territories since 1985, but as only a year older than Nash. Nash didn't even have 3 years from learning the fundamentals before being on WCW. His push was just as fast as Warrior's, who was the same age as Hall and started in 1985 as well. Nash has the look, the size, and the charisma. Most important, Nash's disciplined background was an advantage for the locker room and the road. Bookers knew Nash was a unique talent, they just didn't know the right combo for a gimmick until Nash spent enough time as a pro-wrestler to figure out his best gimmick, his post-Diesel self. Yet for how fast he got into the main card, he's one of the few wrestling stars born before 1965 to live in retirement well and with his original money. Can't say the same for Hall, Hogan, nor Flair with the money. Can't say the same for Warrior, Davey Boy, and Hennig on living long.

Close. Nash debuted fall of 1990. Calloway was gone. Mane was a non factor. Madman and Nightstalker were glorified job guys .
@handsolo1209
@handsolo1209 Жыл бұрын
@@chrischar9428 No, what it shows it that WCW had a lot of big tall guys and rather than making him in to a jobber, they tried to give him a gimmick, proving they saw something in him, but not wanting to stick a gimmick on him that had just been done. Mane was a factor because he had already been seen as Woman's bodyguard, so that gimmick was closed. Nightstalker, Madman, Nasty Ned (and even Kane when he was in WCW) were just big job guys. Nash had some effort put in to try getting him over. He was just there at a bad time for him with all the other stuff that had been going on with big guys.

Wwe made a 6 foot 10 athletic monster of a man in Glen Jacobs a wrestling dentist... He mentioned he was sitting there as they told him about the character thinking "wait, you flew me all the way from Knoxville Tennessee to Stanford Connecticut to tell me you want to make me a wrestling dentist??? This HAS GOT TO BE a rib" while all he could actually SAY since he wanted a job with them is "that sounds great!"🤣 Just goes to show no matter how horrible a gimmick is, if you have the talent and desire, no gimmick can truly "kill that guys career dead" where they couldn't come back from it. Cream will always rise to the top. Hell, in this case he also overcame being the "fake Diesel" before becoming a legend and hall of famer as Kane. I remember some Steve Austin guy being "the ringmaster" as well LOL 🤣

The boxing champion you speak of was Big John Tate WBA heavyweight champion of the world that Nash couldn't lace his boots, the trainer was Ace Miller. Caleb Plant is from the area as well. For those who don't know about boxing, as an example a wrestler makes in a 40 years career if in the upper well-known class not as much money as many champion boxers make in one title defense. Boxing is no game and to be a good boxer one is on a different plain altogether as compared to a wrestler. Boxing is no joke and takes a 1000 times more dedication as pro wrestling does. No offense and I love wrestling but boxing is a big league that wrestling shouldn't be in the same sentence with. No surprise Nash couldn't handle it and that was the real story and not this BS that Nash just wanted more money.
