People! There might be an uncertainty regarding the Fällkniven bolster issue. It was only a problem with their first production run and has been solved now. If anyone has a problem with their knife they can send the knife to Fällkniven and get a new and fixed knife which will not have this problem. Chapeu to Fällkniven for the good customer service. Everyone makes mistakes, it's all about how you solve them!

Who hikes with a fucking axe? An axe is fine if you're at a National Park campsite, or in your backyard. But I've never heard of anybody doing the PCT with an axe in his pack. Axes are way too heavy and bulky. Now, you have to sometimes hike or scramble with an ICE axe, but that's a different thing.

You have a saw to cut down the tree. The saw vastly outperforms the axe, and is much safer to use. Then you can have a saw for felling and cutting down logs, a billhook for delimbing and batonning, and a small knife for carving and bushcraft. Each tool is optimized for its use: the saw is the best solution if you need to rapidly part wood across the fibers. The billhook (rather Italian style: roncola bergamo for exemple) is best for medium chopping, batoning, and handling logs around. The knife can be kept as sharp as one wants since it will be kept only for light duties and won't hit any rock, and it's small size and specific use allows to make it quite light.
@visin8984 Жыл бұрын
A point they made in this video is that they wanted one tool that's able to do it all even if its not the best and most optimised for the job.

Or you could carry this amazing new invention they call a “lighter”. And if it were a true emergency (sure still carry a ferro rod too, why not?) you’ll use either your axe edge at the tip (you’ll still have a sharp belly)... or you’re hyper smart and carry a file too and have flatted one of the thin edges... (that’s what I do). Totally violates the ‘one tool’ philosophy - but working smarter means realizing you bring the right tools for the right jobs. Like lighters.

I'm testing small axes now for uses such as these. I am also getting ready to try a Tomahawk style ax/hatchet as well. A nice hickory handled small ax to me is a better and more versatile tool. A true 'woodcraft' ax would fare much better in tests such as these as well. Granted, making spoons and things aren't going to be as easy but, a lot of the deficits shown by the DBK boys where the knife prevailed would turn out different with a more specialized ax.

you can scrape a firesteel with an axe, just keep the axe steady and pull the firesteel across the edge. Works fine for me

I like using my Cold Steel Viking Hand Axe! Light and fast with a long handle!

These videos are very well made, and you guys do a great job of interesting me, someone who knows little and hasnt been very interested before, in knives and the outdoors. I bet i speak for a few people when i say this as well. Keep up the great work guys

In Maine we just use a ton of different tools. Machetes, axes, chainsaws, splitting mauls, and can't forget shotguns for limb removal

I would suggest that for axe carving you keep the axe firm and move the wood stick on the axe's blade

Axe always. Capable for much more and you can do a lot of precise work with it just like with knife.

Totally agree fellas but where this falls down is where you have majority hardwoods (Australia for example) then an axe becomes more important. It is still a pain to carry it just saves you a lot more work at the other end and is therefore more worth while.
