With Christmas eve I tried to let my dad and his wife experience some of the Polish traditions on this special night. Some Polish food, walk through magical Kraków, meeting a Polish family and going to the church after dinner. It was wonderful and something they will NEVER forget 🇵🇱❤🎄

The tradition of extra space at the table is because when Marry and Joseph were looking for a space to stay, there was no place for them and That’s why Jesus was born in the barn - so we always leave a space at the Christmas table now for a traveler in need of hospitality.

The oplatek thing is like sharing /breaking the bread with people at the table. Oplatek is the same type of bread like holy communion- where Jesus was sharing bread with his apostles. We similar share the bread with our loved ones to symbolize love/caring and give each other good wishes for holidays and new year.

In 1977 we've got a school trip to Kraków. I just remember countless numbers of churches we've seen, but that what I've been most impressed is Wawel Castle, The University, and last but not least Wieliczka Salt Mine. I hope your parents have a good time in the city. Cheers!

"Podzielić się opłatkiem,/ powiedz mi, co to znaczy?/ To dobrze życzyć innym/ I wszystko im przebaczyć." "To share the Christmas Eve wafer, / tell me what it means? / It means to wish well to others / And forgive them their sins." "Przy wigilijnym stole / niech obcy gość zasiędzie / W twoim rodzinnym kole - / przy opłatku, kolędzie." "At the Christmas Eve table / for a stranger seat is there / In your family circle - / for the wafer and carol to share." /Mieczysława Buczkówna, "Przy Wigilii" -> "At the Christmas Eve"/ "Kto chce poznać duszę Polski - niech jej szuka w Krakowie." "Who wants to know the soul of Poland - let him look for it in Kraków." /Wilhelm Feldman/ Nynke, what you showed in your video is in my opinion the very soul of Poland. The magic of sharing the Christmas Eve wafer, sharing hugs and kisses, saying your best wishes to your loved ones and to complete strangers, singing Christmas carols and observing beautiful religious and traditional customs is the representation of the Polish soul in the spiritual realm. Your wonderful, beloved city of Kraków with all its magnificent castles, churches, historic buildings and monuments, your home forever on this planet (pun slightly intentional 😉😃), is the representation of the Polish soul in the physical realm. In your today's film both these representations can be seen and enjoyed and both harmonize beautifully. What is in the Polish soul that attracts people from other nations, makes them feel at home in Poland and makes many of them (like you) stay here and become Poles? I think this is because at its very essence, the Polish soul is pure love, albeit expressed and practiced 'op de originele Poolse manier', so to speak. And since the language of love is universal, everyone can easily adapt to it, even without knowing the spoken Polish language. Like at the Christmas Eve table in your apartment with your dad and his wife. Sharing Christmas Eve wafer, wishing each other Christmas wishes and having 'barszcz z uszkami'. Życzę Tobie, Twojemu tacie i jego sympatycznej żonie wielu wspaniałych dni spędzonych razem w Krakowie. Dni pełnych ciepła, miłości i dobrej zabawy. Uściski Ninko. 🍀🥰🤗 P.S. I fully agree and subscribe with my both hands to what Ged told you between 10:28 and 11:56. The best in your life has already begun and the best of the best is coming in big strides.

I see that you spent Christmas in a nice atmosphere and the red borscht with dumplings surprised me pleasantly and the knowledge of the Polish Christmas Eve. You told your family about the bugle call and I will tell you more. It's like a legend, but there is something prada in every legend. So this is an authentic story: two friends were studying but it was interrupted by World War II, one of them went to the Polish army in the west and the other to the army in the east. When he was with the army in the far east, they were stationed near the city. The authorities asked the military band to play for the locals, so they played and there were crowds of people listening and happy with the music, and at the end the trumpeter played the bugle call of St. Mary's and it happened that suddenly the crowd of onlookers fell silent and suddenly everyone dispersed. The narrator was confused about what had happened and tried to find out what had happened, but the elders didn't want to say anything, but one of them suggested that he ask the women, they would explain it to him sooner. shot a trumpeter who, in their understanding, was calling the faithful to prayers and this boded badly for them for their nation, because they had offended god and their legend said that if someone from a distant country came and played and finished playing, the fate would be removed from them. Also there is a parallel between our legend about our bugle call and theirs. This country was Uzbekistan or something close to it. Few Poles know about it.😀

Many times you had to meet the history of Poland - with German Nazi death camps I am asking out of curiosity - when you talk about the history of Poland - do you say how it really was? or talking to your family - but you lie and call it like German propaganda? I mean your and your family's view of what happened during the war. Sorry for the question, but you're German. Every Pole will be happy to know your opinion on this subject. Regards
