Such an unbelievable moment to be invited to share the most important family event of the year, Wigilia, with a Polish family
What an honour sharing Christmas dinner
Wigilia is Polish Christmas dinner, 12 courses, no meat but includes fish
A wonderful Polish family and a special Polish Babcia
Our most special day in Krakow yet, Polish Christmas Eve

Thank you so much Ela, Gosia, Romek, Ania, Mati, Grzesiu, Asia, Renia, Wojtek, Natalka, Łukasz

I'm so glad you could participate in a very traditional Wigilia. Some dishes and customs are regional and a little bit different but the beautiful family atmosphere is always the same. Thanks to the beautiful hosts Gosia and Roman you could enjoy a wonderful feast full of special Wigilia treats. It was something really special including gorgeous Babcia singing a beautiful Polish Chritmas carol in the background. Wonderful event! Wesolych Swiat! Merry Chrstmas!😍😍😍

Thank you all for your nice comments! Health and love to all for the coming year. It was our family's first Christmas Eve dinner away from home. Thanks to our friends from the @PLANET KRAKOW channel, we wanted to show the whole world how traditions are cultivated in Poland. At home, we eat dishes from one large bowl placed on a table on a hill of hay (there is a hay nest under the tablecloth, wafers on the tablecloth). Each dish brought by the lady of the house (Grandma, Babooshka) is placed on the wafer and each dinner participant reaches for the food three times with a spoon. After consuming each dish, Grandma lifts the bowl and we see if the wafer stuck to it or not. A wafer stuck under the bowl predicts the New Year's abundance of a given food (cabbage, carrots, peas or other)

I am Polish and now for 42 years in Australia. Spoon? I never heard about this specially in the restaurant? My be they don't want to wash and give new clean cutlery ? Food is delicious and 12 dishes is very important for religious tradition . I have cooked 13 as my granddad was always saying it have to be 13. Wigilja start when you see first star on the sky. As a small girl I use to walk out side and look at the sky for first star. The worst was when was snowing and windy and no one could see anything on the sky. I cook traditional food every year and always make 13 dishes. Merry Christmas from Australia.🎄

Hi guys, I wanna share something..I discovered your channel two years ago, when it was called From LA to Krakow. You got here after 20 years of living in CA and I arrived in Krakow after 20 years of living in Massachusetts. It resonated with me immediately and I enjoyed every single episode. I started watching you guys and Nynke (Writing Traveler) pretty much at the same time and enjoyed both channels. Krakow is my city in Poland, but I haven't been here for two decades and you made my transition easier. I had to learn my own country again after such a long time and discovering the city street by street as you wandered around made this process so much nicer and more enjoyable. As I told Nynke when I accidentally bumped into her at Jubilat one day, I was discovering Krakow again through her eyes. And this applies to you as well. Ged and Nina, I watched many episodes on your channel , you made me happy numerous times, especially when I was going through very difficult time in my life. I still live in Massachusetts, but try to split my time between Boston and Krakow now. Who knows, perhaps I will run into you one day in the streets and will thank you in person and say hi. It's a small world after all. Merry Xmas to you guys and keep vloggin'.🙂🌲🌎

@A. Tellerman It was our traditional Polish Christmas Eve dinner. The first time away from home (in a restaurant that perfectly reflected the Polish tradition in its dishes, which is very hard to find on the gastronomic market) and the first time with kutia on the table. Kutia itself is one of the most popular dishes during Christmas, a Slavic tradition on the Christmas Eve table.
