When I first started to learn Dutch 37 years ago I learned 'prepositions'...big ...small ...up ...down...left..right etc...then I could ask for stuff I shops ... I lived there two years...I lived with a middle aged couple who spoke no English..so I learned a lot of 'allerdags ' dutch . .they were very patient and taught me a lot ...what I miss is the conversations...de praatjes..

So for example if you would learn plain flemish in Limburg you probably wouldnt even understand how the people talk in West-Vlaanderen (western of the flanders). Even i almost dont understand everything they say. As they also dont really say the letter G 😆

That's the equivalent to teaching someone how to ride a bicycle by teaching them how all the parts on the bicycle work together and then putting them on the bike to ride it. In theory it would work but most people learn by doing rather than just learning grammar and pronunciation rules. You can add those in as you go. Most people can pick them up too.

To all non dutch people: this is really professional, in real life when for example i say goodbye to my friends or family i never say dag or doei. I ussualy just say later or joe. We often say "doei", " hoi hè", "Later", "de ballen", "dag", "tot sinas", "de friemels", "we bellen" , "doeg", etc. In a lesson it makes no sense to mention all possible ways because that would be too much information and very confusing. And "dag" and "doei" are the most common standard ways to say an informal goodbye. So to me it seems like a perfect way to teach the basic dutch.

As a dutch person i dont think i have actually ever heard someone introduce themselves like "Goedendag ik heet (name) aangenaam" And tbh i dont see that much of a difference between formal and informal language here in daily life. Its really common if you are being too formal that people will tell you to chill or that they feel old or distant when you use "u" etc.

@@h.takahashi3703 its a safer option i guess, but dont be surprised if an elderly says "zeg maar jij hoor! Anders voel ik me zo oud!" Also in naturally informal situations like clubs or bars it might seem strange. But im sure generally people will notice ur not native and understand.

@QuizmasterLaw 4 жыл бұрын
@@jasonbennett2194 speed of languages partly depends on your languages known. Russian is no faster than French but it is easier for an anglophone to follow French as those two languages are more closely related. You probably already know at least one Germanic language, possibly more since some linguists concentrate on one language family seeking real fluency in their languages.

So play it slower. THAT IS HOW DUTCH PEOPLE SPEAK. What do you want to learn? Artificial non existig sterile language and never be able to speak with real Dutch person? Good luck.

I'm sorry but no one really says "dank u zeer" in the Netherlands, maybe sometimes the king or someone that is 85+ years old. If you want to say "thank you' with a little extra, just say "heel erg bedankt". Or without the extra: "bedankt/dankjewel/dankuwel."
