You feel like such an alcoholic though, lugging a triple pack of Glenfiddich down the airplane isle . Lol

Great show guys. Canadian airlines are rarely honest or operate with integrity, it's all about the dollar and not much to do with customer service. It's no wonder why we have to drink. Keep up the great work.

its a common duty free problem...that you can only board a flight from the airport where you bought...as a carry on...and cannot pass from any connecting airport with the liquor...if you remember correctly..you bought it from the airport of the place of origin after the security check...so the right thing to do..is to buy duty free from the last airport you are boarding your flight from...before your destination...as the last duty free shop will be after your last security check...hope that helped...
@trennyandcwhisky6 жыл бұрын
Interesting thanks, but the last flight was from within our home country, can you still buy duty free from within your own country? Does my question make sense?

Please don't buy alcohol from duty free if you have a connecting flight coming into India... you can kiss your bottles "good buy" sorry "goodbye" Also do not pre book your alcohol at the Mumbai Duty Free, to collect it when you fly back, they will scam you with a cheaper version

Great Video! I never purchase Duty Free for the very reason you explained. Also, I agree that they try to hook people with the notion of no tax, but they usually Jack-up the retail on the liquor.

Trenny and C My better way is stuffing 12 airplane size bottles of Jack Daniel's into my one authorized one quart ziploc bag and carrying it on. Toiletries go in the check bag and the cokes are free instead of paying $7.00/drink. Cheers! :)

Duty Free isn't always for North Americans! many people from other countries have much, much higher import taxes than USA or Canada... they always save money at duty free. But you're right, it's good to be an educated customer when spending money like that. A fool and his money part easily!

Got myself a "cheap" bottle of Lagavulin 16 on the way back via Heathrow a couple of months ago (note their Speyside is mostly overpriced "travel exclusives", good selection of Islays though). Kicking myself for all of the shitty med-tier rums, vodkas, and tequilas that I've previously brought back. I think that the cask strength stuff (like Ardbeg Oogie) is an even better deal than the 40-46% stuff.

My Dad bought me a bottle of Haig Club in England and gave it to me on the way to the airport. It put my case overweight and meant I had to pay about 50GBP in excess baggage. Then I got it home, opened it and it was garbage.

I live in Italy in the Venice area and Johnnie Walker Black Label is 22 euros a bottle of 750 ml, that's almost 30 euros a litre in a hard discount shop in my neighbourhood. Including VAT and duties all paid. So I think your duty free special offer was just plain bullshit commercial overstatement of very common whisky. Next time get yourself a 12 YO single malt like Glenfiddich for the same money. More bang for the buck, stay assured.

Thankfully no duty free nightmares (yet) but I can see how the packaging could turn into an issue! Would say my best deal at a duty free was the Glenfiddich Gran Reserva 21 at 43% for somewhere under $120 USD a few years back. Not the greatest whisky but at least one where I felt like it was a decent bargain.

I don't usually buy duty free. I haven't flown from another country in many years, but back when I did, I would buy my liquor in a liquor store and pack it in my checked luggage. I earned my lesson in Miami with 3/4 of a bottle of LaphroIg 10 in my backpack. The security goons found it and tossed it... I got it back at that whisky festival in Duncan 😁

Taxes, taxes, taxes would be my guess. Here in the Philippines, I can currently buy a 1-liter bottle of Black for about US$19, and a 750ml bottle of Green for about US$40. If it's fake then they're doing a really good job. Oh, and good old Kentucky 45% APV Maker's Mark is only about US$22 per liter. I may never leave this little country :-)

Long story short, Dad buys two tequila bottles at duty free shop in Mexico, receives bottles zip tied in the duty free bag, fly into Arizona to catch another flight to San Francisco, have to clear security, Dad gets stopped by security asking him "what is in the bag?", security says the duty free bag should not be zip tied closed, security opens the bag to now test both tequila bottles for "substances", both tests come back negative, security asks for receipt, Dad threw it away in Mexico, security says they can't let the bottles through, they both get tossed in the trash. All the while we are short on time trying to catch a flight. Luckily I didn't buy any whisky in Mexico because this specific airport didn't have any whisky selection.
@trennyandcwhisky6 жыл бұрын
That really sucks... I guess at least I got mine home. I had the same thing with the zip ties. It should be an international regulated thing. -Trenny
