Part 1 of a What's On special by Granada TV about Buzzcocks and Magazine, broadcast on July 27, 1978 and presented by Tony Wilson.
Right after this there's a performance of "What Do I Get?" that I haven't posted as part of the documentary.
I've made a playlist of the whole documentary with all the performance clips which is available here:

It's extraordinary finding this here. I've been looking for this documentary for nearly 30 years - Man, that is scary. Buzzcocks were the first band to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. And I remember seeing this in 78 when I was 14, living in Manchester and 5'2" so getting into gigs was a bit difficult. Brilliant upload, thank you so much

I was there too :). Saw loads of punk bands at the Silver Thread in Paisley (due to Glasgow Council banning punk bands!), Buzzcocks, The Lurkers, The Adverts, to name a few :)

So shocked to hear of the death of Pete Shelley, I loved Buzzcocks. I thought he was the Adrian Mole of Punk. In the nicest possible way, of course.

Manchester is an emptier place without Tony Wilson and Pete Shelley but it is an even more incredible place because of them.

Hster333, Yeah I couldn''t agree more. The Exploited are the lowest form of Punk I've ever heared. I have no idea why they are so popular. They toured Australia once a few yesrs ago and I had absolutley no interest in seeing them. I mean the terrible attempts at writing songs such as "Sex and Violence" are so bad ! The Buzzcocks have toured Australia about 6 or 7 times and I've seen every show they've played in Sydney. The best live band, so much fun. I wish they'd put out a new Album, Its time.

I'll bet Shelley to this day is afraid of Devoto. Not that there is any sort of acrimony or credit or animosity over their legacies. Both great. Just seems like Oxford vs. Mickey Mouse intellectually. Love both bands but Magazine is like a fine wine that continues to appreciate in value over time.
