MAZEPPA BAY 2018!!!!! || Shark fishing South Africa || Part 1

Extra effort to get the channel going!
Part 1 of the Mazeppa bay series: This covers the first 3 days of our trip. Some days were tough but atleast we managed to land one giant Grey shark. The measurement was 278cm equating to 325kg.
We try incorporate a couple tips throughout the video, I hope you guys enjoy and can learn something.

Any chance you can run us through your gear before casting/sliding out and why you choose it in terms of casting/drag/line capacity etc? Maybe some more bait demos in the future? Great video and great content, just wondering how far out you generally have to cast baits. To catch these big sharks? And how you make the rig for the sharks

On my channel there is a video on shark traces. In terms of catching big sharks. That big one was caught when I dropped abit 300m out using a kite. But we catch most our fish on normal cast baits and we can cast from 100 to 150m depending on the size of the bait. It's more important to understand the water structure and find a deep drop off within casting range than it is to cast far. Hope that helps

I use to love to fish. It was all I ever thought about when I was 12-13. Then "I grew up" Fifty years ago I would be right there with you, but "today with what we know now" this is insane, and amounts to a criminal act of negligence. Shark species world wide are in severe decline. We can't afford to damage, or kill them. They are crucial to the survival of many other species. I'm glad you released some, but every time one is injured, there is a risk of death for that individual. I understand the excitement, but the damage we are "all" doing from CO2, acidification, pollution, over fishing long lines, drift nets, and yes sport fishing is accelerating the 6th mass extinction. I do sympathize, but we need to rethink our entire relationship with wild species. We have very little time to make things right before we all go extinct. Just remember it isn't just you and your buddies out there. There's 7,000,000,000 other people out there after the same fish.

Some good words and I appreciate your concern. I know its not a direct personal message at me, and I appreciate your wording. I love fishing with all my heart, and believe that God gave me a talent for a reason. I know its not beneficial to the fish, no form of fishing really is. However I believe that in the way I condone my Sport, I can at the least try encourage the severity importance of handling fish. i ALWAYS stick to bag limits and I encourage catch and release. I can help people understand the very misunderstood shark species. Although the world would be a better place without fishing,(my world would be devastated) fishing is here to stay for a while atleast. I want to help make fishing sustainable! I hope that you guys plan your next trip a bit better. Going to Mazeppa with only one headlamp, and with two fish landers without gum boots is just asking for someone to be swept into the ocean. That is not an area where one wants to be in the water....and get a better cameraman.

Jonno otto. The guys on the rocks had just arrived at mazeppa bay. they had taken a walk onto the island to see what was going on not expecting to be landing anybody's fish , but stayed to give a hand if it was necessary. We have fished for many years off rocky points and done our fair share of fishing in the evenings and we take precautions when landing fish at night.. it was just unfortunate that we only had headlamp with us at that stage.No fish is worth a life. On the trip we did have all the necessary lights, headlamps and spot lights for landing fish in the evening but we ourselfs had just arrived and had not done our unpacking properly yet.. Nobody at any given time that evening was close to the water while the fish was been fought.. in the end the fish was lost and nobody had to get close to the water in any case.

I had no problem with your comment @John Otto up until "get a better cameraman". Instead of negative bashing, why not give some advice on how he could improve his filming? What would you have wanted to see to enjoy the footage?
