ABOUT ME: Hallo, Servus, and welcome to my channel! My name is Felicia (Feli), I'm 26, and I'm a German living in the USA! I was born and raised in Munich, Germany but have been living in Cincinnati, Ohio off and on since 2016. I first came here for an exchange semester during my undergrad at LMU Munich, then I returned for an internship, and then I got my master's degree in Cincinnati. I was lucky enough to win the Green Card lottery and have been a permanent resident since 2019! In my videos, I talk about cultural differences between America and Germany, things I like and dislike about living here, and other experiences that I have made during my time in the States. Let me know what YOU would like to hear about in the comments below. DANKE :)

Bobby Brady I’m a first generation American of German descent. My parents came here in the early 1950s. The majority of my father’s family came over a couple years later. I’m so glad that they did! Otherwise I would have no family here besides my parents. Family is important! You help each other out. You celebrate holidays together. You grieve together in sad times. Family provides emotional support. I have so many wonderful memories of my childhood surrounded by these loving people. I’m still making great memories with them. My life would have been very different if my grandparents, aunts and uncles hadn’t been allowed to come here. And I would have felt even more different from my peers than I already did.

@Bobby Brady We need to have a halt on immigration into the US. We take in a million people a year. A MILLLION! No other nation of Earth does this. No other nation could sustain these numbers. The only problem I have with young woman is she thinks We The People of The United States shouldn't have the right to own fire arms. Sorry, but that's bullshit. Nothing irritates me more than that, bad enough it comes from my fellow Americans but it pisses me off to hear from people who immigrate here.

Congratulations, and thanks for sharing! It was particularly fascinating for me to hear as I’m a former American who essentially did the opposite that you did. I have been in Germany for twenty years and became a German citizen in 2013. I must confess getting a bit misty eyed when you mentioned how the immigration officials welcomed you as a new immigrant to the USA. Becoming a German citizen is one of the life accomplishments that I am most proud of, and I’m sure that your success getting a green card must give you a similar feeling, and well deserved.

@@robwilliams2410 He's trying to make a point that if she doesn't become a U.S citizen why even bother doing the lottery. If all she wants to do is go to school a student visa would have sufficed. I never really knew that becoming a citizen here in the U.S meant being in a lottery. If she becomes a citizen and doesn't stay in the U.S what other potential immigrants missed out on this opportunity to become a citizen and contribute to this nation. I personally don't have an opinion here because I don't know too much about this process or her intentions. But I can see why people would have issues with this.

Victor Ramirez Unlike pretty much the rest of the world our immigration system the lottery has absolutely no requirements requiring anyone to have a needed skill & plans to use it or a sponsoring business or the like... it’s just a friggin’ lottery. It’s crazy. But in her case I think she’s a real benefit to & a great addition to our country regardless.
@robwilliams2410
@robwilliams2410 4 жыл бұрын
Victor Ramirez Thanks for your attempt to enlighten, misguided as it is. His comment clearly goes further than your description. The comment „Those are NOT the kind of immigrants America needs.“ is clearly a judgment about whether she is welcome here, not about the type of path she chose. As a naturalized citizen myself, I find this summary judgment against her offensive and deeply unfortunate. If you have followed her KZbin videos at all, I would sincerely hope that you would consider her presence in the USA to be an enrichment to the students she is working with, and I would hope that you would consider her welcome and not find fault with her for the lottery system that she is faced with as an option. At the end of the day, making it harder for people to emigrate to the United States to live and work will have a negative impact on the prosperity as well as its leadership position in higher education.

@@robwilliams2410 I understand where you're coming from and I absolutely have no problem with her becoming an American citizen or anything she wants to be. But going back to the comment that Bobby Brady said you seem to only highlight the "Those are the type of immigrants we don't need in America" but fail to see the the first sentence that started it. "She said she's not sure if she's going to become a U.S citizen or not" Why say that? If he had flat out doesn't like immigrants...why not just say "We don't need immigrants like her in this country" and leave it at that. I believe he's was referring to her undecided decision to becoming an American citizen. It's like I said before I can understand peoples feelings towards something like this. This German girl against all the odds won the immigration lottery goes through the process and says...I'm not sure if I want to become a U.S citizen. I can understand the wtf attitude towards something like that. I would understand a lot more coming from other Germans who are in the lottery and actually know they want to become U.S citizen 100% but I digress... I have no doubt this young lady can contribute to this nation I hope she obtains American citizenship.That all being said, That's just what I read into Rob I don't know that guys thoughts are how he thinks maybe I am wrong. Hell for all we know he's just a troll looking for laugh's and here we are discussing immigration. With that Rob I will bid you a farewell, and stay safe...until next time. : )

Congrats, I won the DV lottery in the fiscal year 2015 after trying off and on for about 7 years prior and I currently reside in Texas and would be applying for citizenship in 2020. Videos like this me even more determined to make the most of this opportunity and has made me even more thankful of how incredibly lucky I am. If you're not 100% on staying permanently, I would recommend that you should at least stay/work in the US for the minimum 5 years to be eligible for citizenship.

Congrats. It's very interesting to learn about the DV and the process you were going through. I know a little about GC (but not much about the DV) so I have couple of things to point out, if I may: 1) Bring your SS card (with the restriction printed on the front) and your green card to your local Social Security Administration office to have your SS file updated. They will issue a new card with the same number but with NO restriction. 2) Update your I-9 file with your employer if you haven't done so; 3) The green card itself is valid for 10 years but your status as a permanent resident is in fact "permanent". You won't lose it even if the card expires (kind of, unless you commit a crime or no longer live in the US as you already mentioned). It's similar to your passport, passports are often good for 10 years but that doesn't mean you'll lose your citizenship if your passport expires. You just can't use the expired one for any purpose as intended.

Went through a similar process 10-11 years ago trying to get a K-1 (fiance visa as it's known) for my then-fiance who is from Scotland. It was a long, drawn out process much as you discussed. You're quite thorough by the way! LOL It's no wonder we have such a problem with people entering in illegally. It's hard to do it the legal way, but if someone really wants it, they'll find a way to make it happen. It's upsetting to see what people have had to do to follow the law. Yes, you were lucky to be drawn from the lottery. But that was just the start of many more hoops you had to jump through to complete the process. I'm certain it will have been worth it, as you're a very bright young woman and I have little doubt there are going to be wonderful opportunities ahead. Congratulations, and welcome!

Congratulations! A young Chinese women who belongs to our church just won her lottery as well. Of course, it's not the greatest time for New Yorkers, but very glad she's able to stay here with us.

Super Video.

Congrats! And thank you for doing it the right way. As an American citizen I can say we really love immigrants, but are tired of people overstaying their visas or jumping the border.

Great video. Helped me see the process my sister in law went through when she won the visa lottery while still in Morocco. With all the fees, it can be daunting for people from poorer countries.
