I'm a current DVC member (since 2001) and usually travel to WDW twice a year. Whenever a MM event has coincided with a trip I've taken, I've been able to secure reservations every time. I don't have any special tricks when it comes to the lottery, and maybe I've just been lucky.

Great analysis, as usual. Personally - I've been to a few of the MM's. Just got DCA, and hoping to get DHS for Sept 1. That said, I am over the hysteria that it causes each and every time. Essentially, you're being given free admission to a park for a night with some free snacks and a few rare character photo opps thrown in. That's great, and could have a value exceeding $200. But I feel most DVC members (especially in CA) are already APs and get in "free" at any other times of year. So we're now looking at a benefit of character greetings and free food - value, eh? Maybe $50. It's almost as if McDonald's was offering a free combo meal. The entire world would show up at drive-thrus across the country to get that rather miniscule reward just to feel "included" in the benefit. I feel the same is happening with these events. Do I have a good time when I go? Sure. Are they worth the extreme effort - multiple hours online in queue when most people are working, planning days off and/or vacations around a specific date just to accommodate Disney's schedule, fighting traffic after work to get there (which is ALWAYS on a terrible weeknight), waiting in line with thousands of others at the gates to be let in, 1/2 hour lines to get a snapshot with a character or order a small bite of food? That's negotiable.

Hello, we are DVC and local to the Kissimmee / Celebration area. We go to the parks at least weekly. Regarding Moonlight Magic we would try to get a reservation to any event that we could during the year. In the past we have gone to almost all of them (one per park) in the year. I agree that the lottery system is a crap shoot but with luck it can work out. I think this seasonal system is trying to cut down on members like us who would get lucky enough to repeat. I guess it is fair in a sense but maybe DVC should come up with more unique events as to not make Moonlight Magic in such demand. Thoughts?

Dvc is renting the park for the event. Dvc adds this to your dues. Its just a way to squeeze more money out of you. Its not fair if you don’t get in.

No, it comes out of direct sales profits, not dues. That is why resale members (that aren't grandfathered) are not eligible. Florida has some very strict laws regarding what timeshare dues can be spent on.
