Bought 500 points when I bought and I am totally happy with number that I have. Stay in 2 br. Live close so often do short stays- which work better with our jobs. Also- first stay ever as a DVC member I took my family of 32. I had previous year points, current year points and borrowed from the next year. Old Key West was the only resort when I bought. Booked 2 3 br grand villas , a 2 bedroom and a 1 bedroom. It was the 25th anniversary of WDW with the pink cake castle. It was awesome.

We are pending a resale for Saratoga springs and we really want to stay there! For 220 points we will be able to stay for a long time!

Our only upgrade, since 2012, was when we showed up for check-in and my wife had her broken arm in a sling. We got upgraded from a studio to a one bedroom. We always book one bedrooms now.

Saratoga... Resort of Last Resort. That's how I felt for a while but I kept "having to" stay there... and it is now one of our favorites!! I will still take BLT and BCV over SSR but we love it over there.

Oh Jeff… Rio is apparently right up there with the Strat! Golden Nugget downtown is really nice; it’s where we always stay.

We are a deluxe studio family, but after having to stay in Orlando an extra night in September due to the hurricane related weather we stayed in a one bedroom at Riviera. It is the primary reason we purchased an additional 100 resale points (big shout to Derek for helping with that one! truly the best).

We’ve done the bank and borrow numerous times to get a two bedroom / 9 days and allow our kids to bring friends. We also did it somewhat to go to Aulani. Universal or some other smaller trip in the off years. It can be done.

Absolutely agree 150 points is not enough. I became a DVC member in 2003 and in 2023 I did my latest add on. This year I am doing the Adventures by Disney China trip. My DVC membership paid for me. Of course, I banked and borrowed but it is worth it. I have banked and borrowed several times in the 20+ years of membership. My first time was for the first Mediterranean Cruise in 2007. So it’s definitely possible if you dont go to the Parks every year. We were staying at the Disney campground when we first look at DVC, lol. The woman’s calculation about “how much you will save by staying at a DVC property” didnt work, lol. But we came back a year later and purchased out first 150 points. Eating in your room - I just cooked Thanksgiving dinner for 7 in my one bedroom at Animal Kingdom - Kidani Village.

I always took, "resort of last resort" to mean, you can get this if nothing else is available. Not necessarily that it's a bad resort. Just there are a lot of rooms and lots of availability.

I don't know if I would say a lie, but I think you touched on the fact that there is limited availability for that one spot you think you're going to get every year, even at the 11 month window. It definitely has us hedging on what to do because if I choose a particular resort (that might be $160/pt) expecting to get in there at 11 months and can't, I'll be so frustrated. So do I just go ahead and buy the cheapest points and be happy landing at any DVC property?!? I know that when a trip will be dedicated to park hopping (about twice/year) I don't want to be on the "outskirt" properties...

Borrowing over banking for sure. We consider the points eligible to borrow from fair game always. Essentially just subtract that final year of your contract. We have gotten SO much out of our points in the less than two years of ownership so far. It is pretty incredible if you book at the right times of the year how many days you can utilize.

I ate at Turf Club in December. I ordered the famous prime rib. I could barely cut it. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, however. The bicycle rental was wonderful. SSR is a great resort if you like to ride a bike. Something I think hurts SSR is there is no experience that brings guests together. It's so spread out it really does tend to feel like you're at a condo complex than a resort. The little parking lots everywhere you look add to this impression.

I own at SSR (15+ years) and in all that time the food has not improved. While I do like SSR and am glad we bought there, at this point I refuse to eat there. I mean Disney Springs is *right there and has much better restaurants. 😁

We own four resorts with 150 points each, total 600 points. Yes CCR is very hard to book at 11 months at Christmas but I am able to book a few days from the time I wanted. We like split stays with one move and try CCR then SSR but if not available we book SSR then CCR. Our Spring trip is VGF then Riviera. Third trip is the wildcard trip. We maybe looking at renting points for a cruise now that I know it is a possibility. Finally, I need more points.

We have 900 and it’s not enough. But we have a problem. And I agree with panda, if you are asking the “what do we do” question…this might not be for you. We stay for a month at old key Jeff in summer. And some days I just grab a coffee and ride the pontoon boats back and forth to the different resorts. We just RELAX. Maybe just run to guardians then grab a cookie and go back. Depends on the day. And we need an AMYs fav sandwiches show!

The Riviera Resort tower studios are just like a room on a cruise ship. Pack accordingly. I’ve stayed in them twice for three and four night stays. Never in my room except to sleep. Works perfectly.

I think no matter how many points you have it’s not quite enough. lol. You either end up booking more trips or upgrade to that 1 or 2 bedroom that you normally wouldn’t have the wonder where the points went! 😂

I love Saratoga, but I would not want to own there, because I do use it a the 7 month window, and there is always availability for the dates i look for, so i don't need the 11 month window there.
