DVD Drive Doesn't Fit Cs-101 Case *DIY FIRST FIX*

Nic, excellent video. I just purchased this case for a build for my wife. I found a different set of problems with fitting a standard DVD into this case. In my case no Dremel mod of the case's drive bay is necesssary - a standard DVD drive fit perfectly into the case. However, in my "case" I found that removing both bezels from the front of the drive (the drive itself, and the tray) were necessary so that the drive's front would slot into the case's recess for the drive - they allowed no clearance for the bezel. But when I do this, the drive's side mounting holes are positioned exactly onto the middle holes of the drive bay's holes. But more damning is that the eject button provided in the case is about 1/4" away from making contact with the surface of the exposed eject switch on the drive. I'm gonna try gluing a piece of hard plastic, whatever I can find, onto the back of the case eject button, and it should allow the disk to eject. This case appears to sell in such small quantity that there is NO information around about the fitment of stuff into this particular case. Well, it looks nice on the outside, anyway!

One other thought. Removing the tray bezel in addition to the front of the drive bezel is necessary. I did a trial fit with only power connected and when I ejected the tray, the bottom of the bare tray almost rubs against the case's spring loaded door. The plastic of the tray bezel would definitely jam and not eject fully if I did not remove it. And a gripe - The instructions are brain dead useless. They gloss over the DVD installation with no comment. Thx again for the video - the comments are a good place to trade tips.

You’re not really meant to remove anything from the DVD drive… the front flip down door is designed to work with the DVD as is is - removing the door panel and front bezel will affect that… I had to use a Dremel because one of the cables connected to the PSU was too high and that meant the drive caddie would my fit. Which PSU are you using?

@@sterntechdaddy PSU... "SilverStone Technology Silverstone 300W SFX" My experience differs quite a bit with the drive installation. When I attempted to fit the drive with the bezels on the drive per normal installation in a box with a 5.25 full size opening, the drive never nested into the front panel of this case. The drive had to be pulled back really far back into the CS-101 case. With the drive's bezel off, the drive appears to nest perfectly into a cutout in the front panel. The drive bezel is perhaps 1/32" larger on all sides than the metal of the drive case. Perhaps your drive has a somewhat different physical profile? I have a cheap old 2012 era DVD I'm using.

@@sterntechdaddy and I had no clearance or fit issue with this PSU in this case. It fit neatly into that weird extension corded compartment.

@@Ootgreet1 Well worth knowing... the Corsair one I used was the correct size so the actual PSU didn't have a problem fitting in - the cables were the problem.

oh the perks of small form factor! Bet that tested with a non modular PSU, which no one really uses in SFX builds because we dont want all that extra cabling in the case taking up the limited space! Had a really silimar problem in a silverstone case.

Hi, do you think a standard 5.25" bay would fit instead of the DVD drive, or would it need the same DIY hack? I'm looking to buy this case for a snug budget NAS home server and planning to fill it with as many 3.5 inch HDDs I can. Cheers

If what you want to fit in is the same size as the DVD drive in the video then you'll be fine. You could get a 3.5" to 5.25" adaptor and then use a large capacity HDD though. Or you could get creative... 3.5" is 2" narrower anyway and you might be able to fit 2 drives in if you get busy with a Dremel on the adaptor. Noise and heat might be an issue though...

Bonjour, pouvez svp me dire quel ventirad be quiet utilisez vous ? J'envisage un noctua l9x65 performant pour un i5 11400. Pourquoi n'avez vous pas de ventilateurs ? Un 25 épaisseur dessus et seulement 15 mm épaisseur dessous (un slim) est possible pour une carte mère au format micro atx Attention à cela. Ici, pas de soucis pour mini ITX . Il y a de la place . Sinon avec une alim sfx non modulaire, pas de soucis. Bonne journée

Salut! Pour ce cas, il y a un évent dans le haut du boîtier, là où se trouve le refroidisseur du processeur. Ainsi, l'air est aspiré de l'extérieur et peu importe le dégagement - il y a suffisamment de débit d'air. J'ai quand même fait des tests et même sous pleine charge du processeur, il n'a pas fait trop chaud. Le PC doit être utilisé pour des tâches de bureau générales afin qu'il ne soit jamais stressé de toute façon. :)
