I spoke to Bruce Campbell about bringing Crime Wave to Blu-ray and he yelled at me to never speak of it again.

This movie took over 30 years to get recognized for how great it is, somehow with all the behind-the-scenes bs, they still managed to make one of the funniest movies of that decade. It's literally a comic book come to life before comic movies were a thing.

I met Bruce when he was doing a speaking tour promoting his first book 'If Chins Could Kill', and he briefly touched on Crimewave during his speech. When I went up to get my copy of the book autographed, I mentioned "I don't know the story behind Crimewave but I thought it was pretty fun" and he kinda bit his tongue and looked to the side a little, and said "Just read the book". He was generally very nice though, especially hearing that he's not always amenable to anybody mentioning it. Looks like his perspective has mellowed out a little bit.

It was way ahead of its time, it is a multi layered experience with a lot of REAL comedy moments, it was unique in its time and some of those unique effects/edits have been included in various films over the years, this film stretched you're imagination, another film of a similar style is :.... 'Stretch' is a 2014 American crime comedy film written and directed by Joe Carnahan and starring Patrick Wilson, I thought this film was great an imaginative too, not perfect but very entertaining.

Eloquent speaker, Loved the film, the back story to the film sounds like a nightmare, I'm so glad they stood their ground and managed to get it out, it was well worth it, people will catch up with it like a lot of other maligned art from the past, be it film or music. Culture sometimes has to catch up to real inovation.

I loved Crimewave as a teenager. Funny story when Raising Arizona came out my friends and I went to an early preview because we loved Evil Dead and Blood Simple. Anyway after the preview which went extremely well , everyone loved it, as we were walking out my friend Ben an aspiring filmmaker himself spotted the Choen Brothers standing outside the theater. He knew what they looked like! Anyway we walked over and said hello and how much we loved the film. But then I said we thought Crimewave was super funny and crazy too. They literally said nothing turned around and walked away! It was both hilarious and mystifying as we knew they didn’t really love the film but we had no idea how much they hated it. 😂😂

They need to talk about the poor distribution on home video (VHS!) of the first Evil Dead. I first saw Evil Dead as a rental and it looked terrible and only later did I realize that the video store was renting a bootleg, I guess to keep up with the demand. When I saw it on cable the difference was like night and day, and then I understood what happened.

When this came out on Cable tv when I was 9 years old they played the living shit out of this. I didn't think it was a comedy I thought it was just a regular crime movie. If I was born 10 + years later I would have been doped to the gills on adderall and anti depressants.

I'd like to hear the story of how the project got greenlit and funded, since it seems the investors/studio didn't really want to make it, and then Raimi went over budget to boot

Since the first time I saw this movie I thought the Exterminators were absolutely great villains and Reed Birney felt completely out of place in it. Always wished Bruce had been the lead. Birney has no chemistry with Sheree Wilson and doesn't seem to vibe with the humour of the writers and other actors. He just doesn't fit I feel.

Bruce is too hard on the film, yes, its flawed but still way funnier than 90% of today's Hollywood "comedies" plus Brion James and Paul L. Smith are HILARIOUS villains. Crimewave is a true cult movie, box office failure in 1985 but celebrated today by many (incl. me) as a fun homage to 30s/40s slapstick comedies.
