I am glad he mentions how incredible Dmitri TIomikin's score is. Red River was Hawks' first collaboration with Tiomkin. Before that film, scoring was sparse in Hawks' films (with the exception of Sargeant York.). Tiomkin offered Hawks with an approach that was sensitive to Hawks' subtle story-telling.

The thing, is basically his take on Rio Bravo. I would love to have a shot at making a movie, with all the influences from all these guys im confident I could make something half decent,

Assault on Precinct 13 is admittedly a kind of Rio Bravo remake too

I love clips like this, where you see a host or interviewer who has clearly underestimated and seems pleasantly surprised by, the film literacy of a brilliant director best known for working in the "ghetto" of horror cinema.

There is a story that while doing "Rio Lobo" in 1970, Howard Hawks approached John Wayne on set and asked him if he had read the script before. Wayne is reputed to have said "Why would I do that? We've already made this picture twice."

Who asked? This isn't about talking about what film is better than the other. Its about Rio Bravo. Why do people like you always assume every fucking thing is an invitation for your unsolicited opinions?
