When you do that master cylinder upgrade I would replace the shifter cable as well. When doing the bushings on my Evo X I noticed my cable was worn as well - same issue as yours the shifter would pull back towards me in 4th. It eventually gave out completely. Change the cable and it was so crisp, no more lockout issues.

I have a Evo x and when I first got I got locked out all the time and I hated it but I did the torque solution short shift AND bushing, the bushings are key and most people skip it but you finally got them also the redline cocktail eliminates all the grind sound going into 3rd and helps prevent lockouts as well. Ever since then I have never been locked out of a gear and it's been silky smooth. The only thing I can think of is replacing that torn up cable, hope this helps. Love the videos keep it up

You can see clear as day the minimal side to side play is within the cage itself. You noticed that when you move the shifter from left to right it actuates the small triangle to the left side of the cage which indicates you switching in between the 1st to 2nd 3rd to 4th or 5th to 6th gate. The little pin that lifts or lowers that triangle probably has Play Between the pain itself and the whole in that small triangle which operates the selector for moving the shifter from left to right. I'm sure the hole that the pin goes into on that small triangle is just worn out over time from use I don't imagine they have a bushing that goes around that PIN to tighten up the slop so since that whole unit is made of plastic I would imagine that to eliminate that slack you would just need a new selector cage unless of course you can pull a part that small triangle mechanism to the left of the shifter cage witch helps you select between left to right on the shifter
@alaskayoung34135 жыл бұрын
I just did these on mine and when i finished it had slop just like that. I took it back apart and was missing a rubber seal that goes under the plastic piece of box that your shifter ball sits on. So rubber square shape seal-then bottom square piece where shifter ball sits in-then top part of plastic that goes over shifter ball and is held in by the pins. So check to see if that is missing. It's so small but it saved my life.

yeah said this in a previous video, adjust your clutch pedal back towards you, had the same issues in my evo only in 3rd to 4th going fast as well, wouldnt go into 4th id have to go into neutral then pop it in 4th

Try going with a new cage ! I have a Octavia MK1 RS it doesn’t have a Plastic cage but kind of same concept it had a plastic surround cup around the gear stick . I replaced all the bushings and Linkage ends but nothing helped as much as that plastic cup ! I believe all that side to side slop should be no existant once you change the cage. Anyways Great Videos man !

Try adjusting the clutch pedal outward. Also master cylinders are trash on stock x. I'd bet doing both of those will fix it and if not it might be time for a twin disc
@TheHacobin5 жыл бұрын
Probably already thought of this but look into removing the clutch pill if you haven't already.

I have the twm shifter cage with the short shifter and the base bushing alone and it shifts like butter with not much free play at all. Im sure if i had cable bushings also, it would be even better.

IDK bro, i changed all the bushings on my Evo8, plus changed the front engine mount and i still get lock out. I found that as the clutch would wear the lockout would get worse until i adjusted the pedal. now after a few years i have adjusted the pedal several times as i noticed the LO to the point where I cant adjust amymore as the clutch is at its limit and will need a new one soon. Point is, i think LO is relative to the wear of the clutch. How fresh is yours?
@naelzm5 жыл бұрын
i have the same issue. iv got a twm shifter cage, torque solution short shifter, and ams bushings. there is no free play at all like yours but still have same issue. im replacing my CMC and clutch soon, if that dont fix it, then im gona assume its syncro related problem.

Devin, Since you own both a 8 and a 10 I feel you are very qualified to answer this question for me. How does the interior compare in size hip room leg room and head room? Thanks! Love the vids!
@slavl43643 жыл бұрын
I’ve had an 8 and own a 10 at the moment. They’re way more spacious than I ever expected, I’m 6’3 250lbs and I fit perfect. However the 10 that I have don’t have recaros, it’s the 2015 with crappy seats, when i sat in a evo 10 with recaros, it really hugged my legs and butt so that’s something to consider. The evo 8 recaros however fit like a glove, it was awesome.

Mine does that but from 2nd to 3rd. It locks me out half the time, I feel like it’s random. Have you checked your synchros?
@seleckt66005 жыл бұрын
Hm, sounds like it could be a worn or failing synchro. Does the lockout occur from 5th to 4th? Or only 3rd to 4th? if it's only 3rd to 4th, it very well could be that synchro has shit the bed.

@Devin .. I would check out this write up , it helped me out with my lockout issues. I was in the same position as you and I did all of the bushings as well. But when I found out that bracket could be use for adjustment it helped out a lot. Maybe not with the side to side free play but with lockout for sure. My 3-4 always felt like my clutch wasn’t engaged all the way. Good Luck . This should also be in the service manual. www.evoxforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46189#/topics/46189?page=2
