Musical perfection! I fell in love with Dvorak while living in Prague . . . and this piece . . . the American Quartet . . . has its place with the greatest of all compositions by any of the masters . . . Brilliant!

yes, i also love playing the viola part in this, i think dvorak was quite generous in giving us an interesting part.

I'm in highschool band and we're playing an arrangement for just percussion. It's a cool twist on it with the sound of marimbas, xylophones, chimes, etc. instead of strings.

@quotonj Our sophomore percussion ensemble is playing that arrangement this year and I have the opportunity to conduct it! I'm very excited and nervous to see it all turn out.

That's cool. Our ensemble finally finished learning the whole piece today. We still have to perfect it and actually play it full tempo though. :[

I don't know... I like the way the Emerson quartet performed it. It might be technical, but they emphasize each part and color. I love hearing the individual parts and how they all fit together. A quartet is about unity.

i am playing this for the MIC [music institute of Chicago] the academy. we are playing it like the Emerson quartet. we played it better though. we put a lot more passion into playing it. they are to technical, they need more love

In what way is the romantic era simpler. If anything the harmonies have become much more complex with more emotional and dissonant colouring

Hahaha! That's hilarious! It reminds me of a Monty Python animation. The nerd in me (never very far below the surface) has to ask whether anyone reading this knows enough about how graphics are displayed in Flash to explain why it's doing that?

Generous? That seems to be selling violas short to be saying that a good part given to them is generosity. ;-) But I agree that this movement is worth paying attention to on the merits of how fantastic a viola part it has. And there are lots of other reasons to like this movement as well.

Actually, there is a lot of polyphony in romantic music. The simplest "classical" music is classical era (Haydn/Mozart etc). Bach was extremely complex, but so is Mahler and Beethoven.

Hey, saejonhshin. There is some controversy on whether this is his 12th or 6th. Don't worry-you're not wrong-but you're not right either!!!! :-)
