The 7th Symphony, Op. 70, B. 141, is among the greatest masterpieces. The symphonies, which begin in minor and end in major, like Beethoven's Fifth, or Mahler's First and many others, take us from sadness to happiness, from tragedy to jubilation. But here Dvořák sustains the D minor to the very end : he turns to D major only in the final six bars ! It is an extraordinary structure, an incredible development creating irresistible excitement. There are many hidden treasures among Antonín Dvořák works and it is a particular pleasure to present the beautiful Suite for Orchestra in A major. This work should be played more often in concert because this recording will sincerely inspire other orchestras to expand their repertoire with this composition of enchanting beauty, lyricism and freshness. Compared to Dvořák's other symphonies, the piece in four movements is unquestionably the most turbulent, filled with an almost tragic heroism, and ultimately the most typically romantic of these. This second movement « Poco adagio » introduces a certain sense of calm, although it cannot be described as a carefree idyll. The music at this point is sometimes seen as a prayer for the peace of the soul. This part offers one of the most beautiful peaks of lyricism that Dvořák has ever composed, of a refinement never before achieved by the Bohemian composer. Interpretation is splendid with the talented conductor Edward Gardner and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. *Lucien*

I think of all Dvorak symphonies the 7th, 8th and the 9th according to the present " opus" are the best , great importance is the use of folklore themes of his country and the last one " from the new world symphony " some people say that is inspired in the " blues " specially the second movement.
