This is such a funny symphony (Dvorák not Berlin). It often reminds me of Beethoven's 8th (not because of the number), because both seem to play with building blocks of music. All the scales and chords stacking as if he's describing what music is in a lively and entertaining way. I love it.

@sutherndudetx berlin horns always used rotary valve horns! the only place where they play piston valve horns is vienna, the vienna horns are only used in vienna!

Thank you for your question! This recording is from the 1999 New Year's Eve concert at which Claudio Abbado chose to conduct a programme of symphonic finales to celebrate the special occasion. To add to the sound, some of the woodwind parts were doubled (e.g. the 4 flutes plus piccolo and 4 oboes here). Kind regards, Gina F.
