I was 19. They played this beautiful piece at the funeral of Dad’s best friend, Uncle Shiang. Like hundreds of thousands of veterans who followed Chiang Kai-shek when he lost the civil war and fled to Taiwan, Uncle Shiang lost contact with his family and the loneliness lasted for decades. He died alone in Taiwan in early 80s. His dream of going back to the village to reunite with his wife and children was buried with him.

Since I was a child, this was one of the most precious pierces of music for me. I ever enjoyed each single note, the harmonics and dynamics and as it was always present I never asked for its name, wherefore I almost forgot about it, when I grew up. 30 years later I inherited my dad's classical LP collection, stumbled over this one and it captured all of my feelings at once. I was immediately brought back to my childhood, all the pictures, smells and impressions and am so grateful for Dvořáks beautiful gift of eternity! Now I am playing this record each day and enjoying my 2 yo son, being captivated and amazed by this lovely music - just like me back in the days.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I first discovered this movement in piano lessons as a kid. I then rediscovered it in middle school as the full symphony. I am now pursing my bachelors in music with hopes to go on as a conductor and composer. This piece is where it all started for me. I only hope to match this level of mastery and beauty in my career.

V této hudbě je zakletý veškerý stesk a lítost lidská, která se hromadí, když člověk musí opustit svou domovinu. Antonín Dvořák to tak cítil pokaždé mimo Čechy. Je to dokonalá nahrávka, ve správném tempu, barva orchestru, nálada, to, jak je vystupňována - vše dokonalé. Je znát, že bavorští umělci jsou naši přímí sousedé, jejich kraj se našem tolik, tolik podobá. Hrají to skutečně "česky" a Sergiu Celibidache je přepečlivý, velký dirigent. Oceňuji i dobrou kvalitu technickou záznamu. Velmi děkuji za nahrávku, je hodně podobná prastaré z 50. let, kde tutéž skladbu, téměř ve stejném stylu, nahrál náš Václav Talich s Českou filharmonií ještě na 33 otáčkovou LP desku. Na té jsem vyrůstala jako dítě. S velkou úctou potlesk vstoje! Zdravím z Rakovnicka v České republice - a slzy tečou.

Ta skladba voní steskem. Po ranní rose na loukách okolo Hříškova, po nádherné vyhlídce na Boreč a celé České středohoří, na pozdravy zlonických zvonů, na ranní chleba s máslem a maminčino volání: "Děti oběěěěd!" To všechno lze slyšet jenom doma. V domovině tak, jak ji dobře známe všichni, a znal náš milovaný Antoníček Dvořáků. A jak se jemu stýskalo pokaždé, když musel do ciziny! Co je to za dobu, když už se zase daly národy na pochod Z DOMOVŮ??? .... děkuji za skvostnou nahrávku, je v ní celé mé mládí. Zdravím z nedalekého Rakovnicka. Kdybyste jen věděli, jak jsem šťastná, že jsem doma, a vyhlídku na Boreč si dopřávám často. Přečasto.

Taking into account the period of time when it was composed and the meaning of this symphony I visualize the sunrise being seen from the top of a mountain in the Rockies and everything is peaceful and calm. A true treasured moment where truly nothing else matters

Dvořákovu hudbu a tuto skladbu jsem poprvé slyšel, když jsem žil v Československu před mnoha lety (tam jsem bydlel od rok 1991 do 1994). Jsem Američan, tak mi prosím odpusťte mou špatnou češtinu. Už je to skoro třicet let, když samo se učil jsem mluvit česky, takže podvádím pomocí google translatoru. Dvořák je jedním z největších skladatelů, kteří kdy žili, a jeho nejlepší skladby jsou právě tam s Bachem. Jeho Symfonie pro nový svět je zničující, stejně jako American Quartet. Brilantní hudba!

14:06 I haven't heard all of the classics yet, but I'm convinced these are the most beautiful 2 measures of song ever written, the implosion of strings meld together to form a breathtaking melody that lifts the soul above the clouds and through the valleys. It's incredible how Dvorak came from Czechia and knew how to write music that sounds so genuinely American.

I'm 22 now, heard this piece at 13 I believe. I played trombone since 7th grade. Hated it, and at some point fell in love with it and this music. I think it was when i heard this solo. I remember seeing this piece in maybe my sheet music, but I dont know how since our music books were the most beginner level stuff. If it wasn't for Dvorak's name, I would've skipped right over this piece. The strange name is what stood out and was burned into my memory, thanks man. Classical music and the ability to understand how to read/play it is such a privilege to have.
