Rudolf Kempe was a distinguished conductor both in the opera house and concert hall. His several orchestral appointments included becoming the Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 1975. He conducted them in a Proms concert in London's Royal Albert Hall on 29 August 1975 which included Dvorak's "New World" Symphony. However, his health was rapidly failing and in July the following year, he died at the early age of 61 in Zurich. Here from his Dvorak symphony performance is the well-known 'Largo' movement, taken from the 'ICA Classics' DVD release. (ICAD 5009).
