why are people getting upset about the faces the conductor is making? he's obviously having the time of his life and he loves his job! that's really great in my opinion! it's hard to find people who enjoy their job this much nowadays

This conductor is amazing! I love it when you get conductors that actually appear to enjoy the music and share that passion with the members of the orchestra - for myself, as an orchestral player, it makes so much difference to the performance :D

A. Nelsons is simply one of the greatest conductors in the world right now, giving 100% in each and every concert, following the footsteps of Abbado and Rattle. He is conducting the Berliner Philharmoniker on a regular basis, also the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, he has been on tour with the Wiener Philharmoniker recently etc. He certainly has his own mind and rightfully so. That's why he is conducting these ensembles which are as good as an orchestra can get.

Amazing piece and great version I thought, I just wish they hadn't put the conductor in as many scenes during some of the most technically impressive moments - e.g. 08:44 or 09:00 - I wanted to see the musicians playing those bits! ...still - good to see a younger conductor up there trying something a bit different

What do you mean by "ends up becoming like frankenstein" :D:D Dvorak wrote this nearly 50 years before the upcoming 12-note-composition technique which is used in modern horrormovies.. (Which basically creates this "creepy atmosphere" you mean) Wanna hear "something creepy"? Listen to some of Béla Bartók´s compositions ;))

From 8:44 to the end it's playing to - an all-out massacre I would say - and I know what I'm talking about because I myself play the violin and orchestra here that plays a I play first violin and it's pretty hard...But here it's really beautiful, and sometimes it freezes on the back :D
@TheVaughan512 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree with you in that some of the younger conductors are way over-rated but I think you will find the harsh sound here is more to do with the quality of the upload. His intrepretation is a bit disjointed I think and he certainy has some questionable tempi. However, I have a recording of Nelsons conducting the Tchaikovsky 5th symphony which is actually very good so maybe he shoud not be judged on this "unfortunate" Dvorak 9th alone.

First, let me say that this is my favorite of all symphonic works. Now for my critique of this performance. The tempo is painfully drawn out at the beginning of the movement, then proceeds to a mad rush into the finale. Hear the problem during a repeated four note trumpet swell (four of them) after the crescendo at 8:47-50. These measures should not resemble a staccato. In fact, they should be as dramatic as the crescendo itself when performed at a more reasonable speed. Those trumpet notes should not be brief, they should become a focal point of the finale of which they are a part. I would have no reason to hear the remainder of this symphony under this conductor.
