According to the Hikvision site, when comparing an 8MP and a 4K CCTV, the 4K sensor is 1/1.8" Progressive Scan CMOS and the 8MP is 1/2.8" Progressive Scan CMOS. Minimum illumination on 4K is Color: 0.003 Lux and on 8K is Color: 0.005 Lux. The FOV and DORI differ as well probably due to the sensor size. The main difference for me is that the 4K Main Stream is at 25 fps (3840 × 2160) while the 8MP is only 20 fps (3840 × 2160). Dave, could you explain why this is so and why 4K and 8MP are used interchangeably as if they are the same?

Do you happen to know if the the dome camera from hik vision is a common fitting to other brands of dome cameras if I wanted to upgrade to a different brand. As where the installer placed the cameras on the stucco wasn’t a good place and if I can just replace the old one with a new one will work. I don’t want to rip off the mount and ruin the stucco. my system has out lived it self (2017 system) and i wasn’t happy with the quality (2mp set up). I told the installer/ sales guy you can’t really use the footage for any real detail security footage. And it’s supposedly 4K wiring but it’s not the Poe type it’s BNC plugs I believe.

Hey love watching your videos. I've learned so much. I have IDS 7204HUHI-K1-4S(B) with 5MP CoulorVu cameras and quality are great and thought it was the best system ever untill I had to playback to try and get footage at 3am to try and get a person's face but to my shock it was blurry and pixilated. Cameras are set to the 5mp setting and light is on.

that is a shame, are the cameras set also to 5MP mode, under pre-set call the camera menu and make sure the OSD of the camera is set to 5MP also not just the DVR

Hi, Thanks for this info. I have a request using these cameras. Have you ever tried comparing their recording? Can you make another video with 8MP Camera then how many fps? Then compare it to 2mp ipcam with 25fps 1080p

8MP would be nice to have but the throughput Id need from my internet would not handle it at a decent frame rate. I wonder what CPU load it would have on a PC based DVR such as Blueiris? There is also the fact that you need much more storage space. I would like to get a turret ColourVU Acusence with audio in a 4k format. It would also be nice when this tech has a varifocal lens. By far Hikvision are the best cameras I have ever used.

we now do the 8MP colorVu model , that is awesome , and if you need to even a 12MP in the 7 line version but that will be very expensive

Hi, would u recommend a Dahua or Hik 4k AI camera? Also, is the upgrade to Ip worth extra cost? I’ve had an installer saying analog is fine for a house. I’d rather get something that’s future proof etc. thanks

I want to install 32 IPcam DS-2CD2087G2-L(U) 8MP and an NVR DS-7732NI-I4(B) what's your opinion on that products and also in INVS-4200 will i have all the 8MP resolution from the cameras or this i will have it only at the 4k monitor that i will install?

The biggest problem with 4k is most manufacturers are using two megapixel CMOS sensors

@@DVSLTD but, if the sensors have the same area, doesn't that mean the 2mp one will get more light per pixel than the 8mp one, thus having better quality at night? I'm really curious about this because I've seen here and there that a lower resolution camera will get a better image at night because the area of the pixel is bigger.

A 5MP camera with 30x optical zoom would be the best option.

if you want these IP models then please look at something like the DS-76NI-K series NVR or the better again DS76/77NI-I series NVR 😊

From the post, I think: only a 256 Mpixel camera can make a real image quality, - like the 4K resolution of the monitor maybe in 20 years, someone will make a quality security camera

I tend to agree with the 4K argument, however the knowledge of most "sales" people and the correct lenses configuration for an application is abysmal, I often see specs with 8 mp cameras and a fixed 2.8 mm lens to observe an area clearly 25 metres away ... it is laughable .... hence my use of the IPVM Calculator / JVSG IP design package

@@genuinetechniques9323 If the 5MP is set to 5MP then no , but many use 5MP Turbo as 4MP lite mode without realising and that is very comparable to 2MP yes

One more query, Does the accuracy of human detection feature in acusense dvr is as good as that in acusense NVR s. It's for getting alerts on mobile when any humans enter the field of view
