I'd been playing a pedal I bought from a friend for $20 for years and I bought a 9002 on Craigs list for $290 with the intent of turning it for a small profit on Ebay. I decided what the heck I have them might as well try it out. I haven't adjusted a thing and it plays faster and smoother then I ever would have imagined. Everything I do is easier, smoother and quicker. I can even pull off things I could never do before. Double beats are so much more possible on this pedal. Can't sell it now!

I was watching this in 2019 and just have to add one thing, the very last thing he mentions is the ''Play" from the universal shaft connection. This is important because no matter how many adjustments you can make, it simply will not matter when you have a loose slave pedal due to a weak universal joint connection. I've been playing the Tama Iron Cobra most of my life until I wore down the connection on the universal joint. I tried many pedals and finally settled on the TAMA Speed Cobra. This pedal also had a weak universal joint, so I bought a separate "Pearl Z link" universal shaft which gives my double pedal ZERO tolerance. It may not matter to some drummers, but for me it was a big deal that the slave pedal simply didn't have the same response as the master. Playing Thrash Metal, a tightly set up double pedal was a must for me. I have checked out many double pedals and found that MOST have the same issue with the universal joint connection, the Z Link was the only one that gave me a Zero tolerance , Tricks and Axis Pedals also offer something similar.

I currently play on DW5000 and DW3000 dblkick pedals, and I've had problems with their stock drive shafts to the point of too much latency in the bearing linkage... A couple years ago I couldn't afford the Trick drive shaft (DW version), so I bought a Ludwig Atlas Pro drive shaft that is equivalent to the Trick shaft using thick machined bearing linkage. Since I got the Ludwig drive shaft my pedals play consistently and the action is precise between my slave pedals and main pedals. Next month I will buy the DW9000 XF version and I will certainly go for the Trick dw version drive shaft. Trick Drums Inc. did an excellent job designing retrofit Trick shafts that can be used with other name brand dblkick pedals, you just have to get the right Trick shaft that is compatible with whatever pedals you have. 👍

I purchased the dw9002 double pedals today. They are one heck of an upgrade from the dw5000 s I have had for the past ten years. I had no idea how crappy my old pedals were until the moment I set the dw9002 s up on my kit. They are so smooth and the numerous adjustments you can make are easy. I was able to dial in the perfect amount of resistance in the springs along with beater angle and footboard height. I played on some pearl demon drives and the tama speed cobras and the dw9002's were by fa

Thanks for the info! I JUST got one of these tonight -- so this vid is helpful indeed! I am replacing a (very sentimental) accelerator 5000 that I bought in '91!! Believe me when I say that my old 5000 has been through 1000's of shows! I have held on to it for so long b/c it remained perfectly balanced...for me. Never been too impressed with other pedals, and preferred old 'trusty'. It's day has sadly come - and I hope the 9000 can be dialed in similar and last another couple decades!

Thanks for the video. I am thinking about buying the 9000's. I just cannot stand the twin pedal any longer in general, so I will opt for the single ones nowadays for that extra bit of money. I had the 5000 twin pedal 11 years ago, but returned them due to the slack on the slave pedal. I do notice it.

DW screws often contain a type of Lock-tite. The manual states that you'll need to heat them with a hair dryer for 2-3 minutes before trying to remove them.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a pair. I currently have the 5000 (had them for 3 years) and still can't find a comfortable position... Great review. You basically sold it to me :D
@TonyVazquez826511 ай бұрын
Wow, I'm the 666th viewer to Like this video! Nice job with your tour of this awesome dblkick pedal. DW has made so many newer and better dblkick pedals for decades, yet they have never thought about upgrading the stock drive shaft to a more solid and consistent bearing linkage design... as we can see, that stock drive shaft has latency (too much loose play) which affects the timing of the slave beater. If you're playing blast-beat dblkick runs, that latency could sound sloppy in the studio monitors. A remedy for that is to replace that DW stock drive shaft with the Trick Drums drive shaft DW version, so that the action will be consistent and precise in the Slave pedal exactly as the Master pedal. I plan to buy the DW9000 XF (extended footboard) version next month, as an upgrade from my DW5000 and DW3000 dblkick pedals. I also have the Pearl P932 Demonator chain-drive pedals, but I'm certainly gonna ditch all my pedals and get the DW9000 XF set as my ultimate dblkick pedal upgrade. Thanks for this video, keep up the good work! 🤘👍

Its a floating rotor because the axel and the cam are sitting on 2 seperate magnets on the same polarity so the cam on the axel is actually floating.

I just traded my 9002's for the new Tama SpeedCobra's (newer version of the Iron Cobras) and they are the best things that I have ever played (between all DW, old Iron Cobras, Axis and Pearl DD & Eliminators). But it is all personal preference.
@Gretschdrums7513 жыл бұрын
I just got one of these a few months ago. I still use a single for gigging. So far I like it but it is essentially still just a kick drum pedal. I also have a Pearl Eliminator, a Tama Iron Cobra power glide, a DW 5000 Turbo, and an Axis Longboard. I have 5 drum sets so I need multiple pedals. My favorite for feel is still the Iron Cobra. Just my opinion.

I guess if you giving DW $550 bucks isn't enough you can get a DW golf towel XD lmao

@fireboi55 The spring tension is all personal taste. As a starting point I went with a loose spring adjustment because I don't like to feel any tension. If I have to push down much more than just the weight of my leg I'm working too hard. Aside from that I kept the board in a kind of middle height area and let the beaters ride back a good distance from the head. Even though they're set up light to the touch, there's enough power there to break heads.

I have the speed cobras which I do like but these look very well built. I think I'd only trade up for high end direct drive pedals though, you're always taking a slight gamble cos it can take a few days to get used to a pedal which is time you don't have when you're in a shop trying them out.

I have a demon drive and I hate direct drive, it took me a long time to realize. I'm thinking of getting one of these, I was just wondering if the z-link from the pearl will fit on the DW, because I'd really like to keep the zero latency feature.

@bass6352 Matt Greiner from August Burns Red uses DW 9002's. I play Metalcore also and used to use Iron Cobras, but now have 9002's. Both are awesome, I prefer the 9002's still.
@mike.correa11 жыл бұрын
The u-joint thing is a very common problem with double pedals. I think the Pearl Eliminator Demon Chain Drive (Not the direct drive) is a pedal that might not have that problem, though is expensive. I never tested it but that design with those no-friction bearings must have solved the problem! Well if it didn't, so i think there is no help.

@bass6352 I have Iron Cobras. they're easier to adjust foot pedal and beater angle since they're totally independent. There are numerous cases of heavy players snapping 9000 foot boards in half, unlike ICs. The 9000s will be smoother cause everything has bearings on it but are less durable than ICs and cost more.

@aaronled I know how you feel man. I think that many drummers, including myself, tend to be borderline superstitious when it comes to pedals and a lot of us search for a familiar feel in new pedals. The 9000's are definitely east to settle into. I pretty much stayed with the factory settings because out of the box they felt great. I hope they work out for you.
@ThrowingItAway14 жыл бұрын
Iron Cobras are so much easier to adjust.... everything adjusts independently. the foot board angle doesn't effect the spring tension or the beater position. They may not be as smooth as DW9002 but they're much more customizable and durable.

Both are acceptable. Each will give you a different sound, with the felt side being a less defined attack, and the plastic side being more attack. Your drumhead and beater pad will also have an effect on your sound. Try different combos and see what sounds good to you.

And the 5000's I have had were the single chain version. That will tell ya how old they are. I got them used. Lasted ten years and thousands of hours playing on them. So I am not worries about the 9002's as far as reliability goes. And whoever posted about people breaking a dw footboard in half that is nuts. You would have to weigh 500+lbs and be jumping off ur throne tons that. Learn proper technique. As long as they are played properly no footboard of any bass drum pedal will break in half.
