How to adjust the angle of the batter head and the spring tension ? Can you show this please ?

I’ve had the 5000 & 9000 and for some reason, I just like the 5000… maybe it’s the red accent, everyone knows red = speed haha.

Wow haters are the worst. He’s giving his opinion. Which I would agree with. Common sense. I use 2 separate dw5000 pedals modified with the sprocket rotated forward so the beater starts out parallel to the floor. I use Roland kd7 bass drum triggers. Modified as so allows you to use a straight beater. That allows you to use any type of beater instead of the right angled one that is sold with the trigger. I wonder if the 9000 can be modified in such a way. And btw most of the set screw are a bitch to remove in the 5000. I replaced them with tiny hex headed bolts. If you use freeze off on them they come right out and you won’t damage the Allen key slot. Looks like there’s a lot more to the 9000 but there’s always a work around. I wouldn’t trade my 5000 for a pedal that attaches to a real bass drum though.

I bought one of these and it's so big, it doesn't fit in my trap case, so I never use it. I'me still using my old Speed King because it fits in my trap case. Likewise, I agree that it's a great pedal. I'll probably use it for recording because it's so quiet. The old Speed King can be a bit squeaky at times.

True, it is a massive pedal. Cumbersome, but extremely solid. How old is your Speed King? Do you think it holds up compared to the newest version from Ludwig?

Thanks for this review. But after paying $$$, I have a major few beefs about my DW 9000. For those of you who left their foot glide forward, the supplied end toe stop they supply is something you have to put on yourself. GOOD LUCK getting the end screw out of the original pedal's foot plate. Someone in their factory torqued it down so hard with a pneumatic drill that it literally took hours of effort, going through two tapscrew removers, which both broke. Finally had to drill out the damn screw, breaking another drill bit just in order to get the freaking screw out, in order to put a better new screw back in to hold their supplied toe stop. Two trips to the hardware store, had to replace the tapscrew bits, which broke in the attempt, and struggled with this simple thing for hours, literally.For a BRAND new top of the line pedal. So now I'm pissed - right? - because some factory genius thinks he can just torque the living bejesus out of that screw? And it was a cheap ass screw, too. I documented all of this with photos with the plan to send it to DW, but I'd wasted so much time on the repair to my BRAND new pedal I was over it. I wish I'd taken the pedal back to the store where I bought it, but I just gave in and gave up. Once the repair was done, then I realized another issue. I'm left-handed/footed, and the spring tears into the right side of my left foot tore up the right side of my expensive Brooks running shoe. I was now deeply pissed. So I have to wear different shoes just to play this pedal. Another great note on this pedal. More about the toe stop. This pedal, moreso than other pedals I've used, I find my foot launching forward. I'm not jamming it forward, it just seems to require a forward foot, perhaps to try to gain speed, I'm not sure, but my foot goes way forward into the works, but the toe stop, the very one they supplied that made me want to throttle their factory, is NOT sufficiently large enough. This is a beefy pedal, amiright? Beefy pedal with at stupid little toe stop that barely rides over the toe of certain shoes. Last gig I found my foot nearly getting briefly stuck on top of the toe stop mid-song. I'm not a loud player and I don't really drive the beater into the head, but I do tend to play with my heel up, not flat to the plate. Hell, maybe I need more traction on my shoes as well! But I'm a size 13 shoe and it tends to fly forward into the toe stop. As far as performance, it is indeed smooth, solid and quiet, and I like the downward spikes. Would I buy it again? NO, and I couldn't' recommend it. I can say it will last and it's expensive. That said, here is a very nice general tutorial on kick drum pedal adjustments, not specific to the 9000, but he does seem to use one! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKq1lpWPgLqAbq8

Furthermore, there is such a lack of documentation on simple things like adjusting the spring tension, which one must push down the spring before being able to adjust the screw. The information all seems to be anecdotal. I'm not a fan of this. They are supposed to be a rock solid company, so I'm pretty disappointed.
@tt61162 жыл бұрын
They use very cheap screws, I had to replace the hinge on a 9000 double pedal after it broke and the head of the screw literally snapped off while turning it. This turned it into a nightmare to fix. They are way overpriced for what you get. The much older ones didn’t have this issue.

try tama's 910, they will fit your feet.

i have vids on my channel, I played old tama power glide cobras in those; the 910s are bees knees, hands down better than the 9000

The heel plate screws are ridiculously tight also. I trashed one getting it out. The other 5 came out easily with a bit of heat and an impact driver. Regarding your shoes, don't use running shoes. Use something with a fairly thin sole with a small amount of cushion...like Chuck Taylors or (my favorite) Puma Suedes. And if you're hitting the toe stop then you're technique is wrong IMO. I've used 9000s exclusively since they came out and love them. They're smooth, totally adjustable, built like tanks and last for decades.

IN a word... NO! After spending all that money I came to realize the beater is offset to the right of the pedal so you can't get the beater to strike the center of the head. All I can say is it was probably designed by someone who never used a bass drum pedal before. I am very disappointed.

9000’s suck. Every pro play I know (including NP, RIP) got rid of the 900’s and went back to the 5000’s. Who are you anyway? Never even heard of you.

@@NickCesarzDrums Yeah man, didn't you know that you're not allowed to make drum videos unless you have >100k followers before your first upload? 🙄 He isn't entirely wrong about the 9000 though. Maybe DW has since revised it to be better, but I heard about a lot of problems with it breaking and needing to be sent back to DW to be repaired because the part was not user-serviceable. (This was told to me by the owner of a drum store.) I've heard of some pros preferring the 5000, but there are plenty who still use the 9000. I only tried it out a couple times; I thought it was very smooth, but like all double chain pedals, the feel was heavier than I like (I use an old single chain 5000 double pedal). For a single pedal, I would go with the Sonor Perfect Balance Standard - simple, feels great, and reasonably affordable. For a double, unfortunately the only one I find compelling is the Darwin FTW, which is ridiculously expensive and has a waiting list.
