Could not agree more you listen to a Gresh renown or a Tama star classic and you think hey that sounds really good and you think I don’t have to pay more for an extremely good drum set and then you hear these and you wake up and realize oh yeah I do it was just because of Nick

Love this kit but I think the toms are lacking some bite and tone that you get from maple!! Sound a bit muted but warm.

Hi Nick, I purchased this kit after watching your video and love it. I have a problem with the tuning. Was trying to find the tuning set you used in this video and asked your colleagues in the company if they can help for any recommendations. They rejected my request since I purchased it from another seller. (The other company had it in their stock but yours did not when I wanted to buy them). Can I get your help on this or is this the approach of Sweetwater, marking people as other company customers forever? Am I not a potential customer for Sweetwater?

Gonen Ozuysal are you in the LA area? I could help you if you need. Also, what heads are you using? The mice in the video will make the drums sound different than in real life. Plus Nick usually runs different than stock heads in these videos.

@@2ndAveScents I'm not in the LA area but thank you for the offer. The heads are original DW factory heads, probably Remo Ambassador clear bottoms, coated tops. If there is any head suggestions, I can replace them as well. I have a mic set of Shure PGA7 and DW Moon mic in addition to Shure bass drum mic from the set. Basically, the biggest support would be the tuning combination suggestion for me as well as the head types.

Dude, I'm sorry. That really stinks. With that kit I'd run just some clear emperor or even pin stripes if it's for recording on top and the bottom heads should be fine from factory. Just a low punchy tuning sounds great on it. Almost like how you'd tune a bass drum but a little bit tighter all around. Hope the helps.

Hi Gonen, I own this kit and put Evans EC2s and EC resos on all the toms. I put EQ3 on Bass batter with pillow on reso head only. I tuned the kit with a tune-bot, with with bottom head higher and a -2 pitch adjust. The kit sounds awesome with a deep low grumble.

HI Matthew, That is an old Paiste Sound Formula of mine from around 1995. Every so often I get it back out and remember how good that little thing sounds. Sound Formula was a great line from Paiste. Thanks for watching!!!

how much do want them to resonate? Mine are cherry/mahogany, and I feel they sustain almost a little too much. Plus when mic'd up, the sound guys are going to gate any extended resonance. I keep hearing people throw that word out there, but, it's a lot more that goes into a great recording or live kit. I find them almost perfectly balanced.

I got my set 3 months ago and Ill never look back! They have an unbelievable musicality to them. All of the drums sound round and warm and everyone of them is super sensitive.

Dw are the most overrated drums ever imo, so many sets that are cheaper or in the same price range range that are better. Dw has nice finishes and all these exotic woods that don’t really sound any better. Just cause wood is rare doesn’t mean it’s going to sound better. A sonor sq2 destroys a dw(I also have owned a collectors and a performance and I bought into the hype too). I heard a sonor sq2 in person all tuned up with good heads and it seriously was on another level than a dw collectors. Are dw terrible? of course not but for the money they are really overrated. Just my opinion though, if you like them that’s great! I just thought the same thing as you till I heard some other really high end kits in person.

The SQ2 series are amazing drums but just like DW there are so man options for shell materials, finishing and sizing I cant say one is "better" than the other. They both have a great pedigree, BUT that said DW finishes are better hands down! Just my opinion. Cheers!

Nick, just some constructive criticism... The opening song doesn't really showcase the tone of the drums themselves. I almost stopped watching because all I could hear was "thud," not due to the drums, but to the mix. (And I am using good speakers; I'm watching on my home theater rig.) The tom solo and drum solo section really sounds better to me--I can hear the drums! That section I think more truly represents the character of the kit, more so than the opening. Just my $.02.
