How was such a beautiful gentleman. So kind and patient. I will never forget the time I had him as a teacher at M.I. back in 1992-1993. Thank you for the post. Ed - it's good to see you too!

There simply could not be a nicer human being than Joe Porcaro. He was loved by everyone and is missed by all who came to know and love him. Eddie is a fine composer and educator with a series of books authored about Brazilian and African rhythms and many more brilliantly conceived books. These two go way back together as best friends.

Many years ago in Down Beat Magazine, Ed Shaughnessy wrote several articles on the studies of Indian Music. I still have copies of them to this day and that was in 1971 or so. As a result of that article, I began collecting every Indian Tabla record I could find and amassed an enormous collection of Indian music with all of the greatest Indian musicians from North, East, South, & West India. I had practically all of Ravi Shankar's records plus Ali Akbar Kahn, Allah Rakha, Zakir, many records featuring Sarod and more. All amazing rhythmic music.

Theres no doubt of why Jeff Porcaro was as good as he was, I really enjoy hearing any Joe Porcaro interview even though I have never picked up a drum stick in my life. Thank you for this video.

JoPo sent me his drum book, all the way to Mississipoi. That kindness will not soon be forgotten. Hard to wrap my head around the fact Papa Joe is in Heaven, now. He is already missed.
