Jacob, thanks for all the advice! I recently got a 75 gal for Christmas. I slowly pieced the parts and equipment together. One thing I did was I ordered Dwarf Baby Tear seeds from China. They arrived in 2 rather small viles but each had about a billion teeny tiny little seeds in them. I installed my under gravel filter and 160 lbs of eco complete. I then sprinkled the front right corner liberally with the seeds. I then took a humidifier filled it up plugged it in and put plastic wrap over the top of the aquarium.I ran the humidifier until the water level reached the seedlings then I would turn off for a day or two to let the water evaporate and let the seedlings send their roots deeper looking for the water. I am running 4 100w equivalent 6500k CFL's on clip on shop lights. It took about 2 weeks to germinate and another 2-3 weeks before I felt comfortable in filling the aquarium. I am using osmocote under the eco complete and I use Flourish. I don't currently have any fish so I dose with co2 gas to the yellow side of green on my drop checker. The DBT's have taken off! They were pearling from day one and after a week submerged they started to produce their second tier leaves.

I keep dwarf baby tears without co2 just good lighting and nutrient substrate and dose of good nutrients. I have a full carpet. Co2 is not really a must for this plant but it’s really slow growing but very nice it took me about 3 months to get a full carpet without co2

I just threw a bunch of dwarf baby tears in my tank to see what happens, since people say its grows so slow. I've never grown dwarf baby tears, and they did initially melt, but they are growing now. However, my tank temps are either at 80F or 78F, and the tears appear fine to me. Maybe they could grow better at lower temps, but alas I'm in this hobby for the fish not the plants. I'm not using any co2 but I am using easy green fert from aquarium coop. I dose like once a week.

This helped me a lot! I have a beautiful carpet growing now. I definitely don't agree with the 99% of the internet that says that baby tears if for an advanced aquarist. This stuff is really easy to grow and takes no special treatment. I have it in my first aquarium ever and it seems to be doing just fine. It's also a 7.5 gallon nano tank and it isn't hard to keep either. I have had it for about 8 months now with absolutely no issues. Thanks for the video!

Very good, very detailed tutorial and thanks for this! Having tried various attempts at growing Cuba in the past, I know how difficult it is to have a healthy Cuba carpet. In most cases my Cuba was overrun and killed by algae. In other cases, my cuba could not grow even ages after planting. I think after this video things are more clear. One question though. Does excess CO2 harm Cuba? What if I pump the levels in the beginning just to be on the safe side and just not to get any algae business- would it harm the plant? thanks

Hey Jacob. I got some Dwarf Baby Tears from my LFS. It has been 2 days but i have managed to keep them in the substrate. I am using Fluval Shrimp Stratum. I am running two 30W LED Flood Lights on a 10 gallon that is 30cm deep (Aprox. 11.811 inches). It is very tall so should I cut it down to the hight I want the carpet to be at? I am not using CO2 but I am going to set up a 40 gallon tank with Fluval Shrimp Stratum and two 100W LED floodlights with CO2. I am trying to make a high tech tank with neon tetras. What plants do you think would go good in the 40 gal?
@rregl06127 жыл бұрын
Jacob, currently trying to get this carpet established, is some yellowing a 2 weeks after planting normal, or should I see it green out sooner, what is considered high C02, I'm running a diy generator at about 2 bubbles per second. It dumps directly below my spray bar to help saturation. 2ndly what is high light running a depth of 18inches, in running one 24 7 se, set to max for 8hrs? Not having a lot of luck and thinking of switching to dwarf hairgrass??

Hi Jacob, Lately my nano tank has been experiencing some green hair algae growth. Its not extremely bad and I am able to deal with the minor growth on my larger plants by picking it off. It is a little more difficult when it comes to the growth on the HC. I've seen others use peroxide to kill the algae, but I'm wondering if this will harm the baby tears in anyway. Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jacob, my baby tears are melting a few days after planting. The temp is at 78°.Do you think lowering the temp to under 75°will stop this decline in growth? If they have been grown emersed, will putting them straight into water melt them? . Could planting them for a few weeks in soil and slowly rising the water lever help them adapt to the tank conditions?any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Alan Reid.
@puopg7 жыл бұрын
Yo dude, in general most plants prefer cooler water vs warmer water. You can try 75 though I think 78 should be fine. Sometimes plants melt when getting used to their new environment but most of the time melt off is due to poor co2. Also keep in mind, cooler water can hold more dissolved gas so even more incentive to lower your temps a bit. But honestly, this plant can be grown in low medium light with ferts no problem. It's all about co2. If you want to slow growth down, reduce light as that drives everything in a planted aquarium.

+Anoop Sreenath Hi Anoop, I would not recommend CFL bulbs, I know some people have said they can grow plants with them. But as you've experienced yourself, they don't grow everything. I don't think Dwarf Baby Tears is a good choice for that type of lighting system.
