2 of my dwarves died to a forgotten beats. I dug out a large cemetary for them before realizing tombs are suppost to be for a specific dwarf. They were my first dwarves to die that werent monster slayers.

You can also set coffins to accept animal remains instead. I made a pet cemetary as well.

You can alternatively use a staircase instead of a door and it allows your to multi place rooms, no hatch on the upper level required. I believe this works with all rooms.

I had to do a lot of this recently after an…incident with a werelizard 😅 I had about 80 dwarves. And then 4 of my dwarves turned out to have gotten infected during the initial attack, AND THEN 70 DWARVES DIED. A few died from starvation because I forgot to unlock the doors to their bedrooms (oops); most died from the werelizards. In hindsight, banishing the infected would’ve saved many, many lives

Is there a way to identify infected dwarves outside of waiting for them to turn? Has a very similar incident in my fort with even more... Fun results. l didn't even know you could banish at the time

@@seangeisbush no sure way outside of banishing everyone who got injured by the werecreature, if you want to safely banish only infected people you can lock everyone who got injured into their rooms over the full moon and then banish people who turn.

IMO it's about the same amount of mouse clicks to do single-tile zones in a big room than to multi designate rooms, it's not like you can dig the 2 tile slot and place doors for free. Hopefully we get a Cemetery zone or the like in a coming patch.

I like to dig a channel down, stick the coffin in the hole, and put an engraved glass or metal floor over the top of them, then place a statue of that dwarf atop it - for my more fancier graves when a highly detailed tomb is not required. Warriors that have died in conflict get a statue of how they died.

if you have reanimated ghosts in your fort the tombstones and coffin don't make them go away. but these ones aren't hostile and still do their work lol not sure if glitch or just the haunted lands next door influencing things. haven't had it happen before

I have a question on this method, don't door block view from dwarfs passing? I was under assumption that having these in hallways gives positive boosts to dwarves just passing by.

Can you move the dwarf remains afterwards? Like you buried them in a temporary spot then when you finished a proper catacomb area, you make a new tomb area, new coffin, select the dwarf and etc. Will they move the bones or will they see it as refuse and not move it?

ya, the ghost goes away as soon as you place its engraved slab; personally, after about 100 hours of the steam version, i havent messed with tombs at all, putting down slabs before ghosts appear seems to be enough to prevent them, tombs themselves havent seemed needed so far -- though after seeing this video i guess it gets the dwarves to get rid of bodies in its own way.

Tombs are needed to keep nobles happy, even if not otherwise used for burial.

Nobles require fancy tombs assigned specifically to them. Other than that, it's roleplay. If the militia commander dies valiantly defending the fortress he deserves a blinged out tomb out of respect

That would be hard, cause it depends heavily on embark location and that is unique from map to map.

it's more about how many dwarfs are killed the less likely migrants to come and if nobles also killed it's way worse.

@@rattlesalad4472 the idea I had was for Blind to give a quick overview of what make migrants come, what causes big migration or smaller ones, then talk about what to spot in migrants, may it be the skills or how to spot a weresomething, vampire etc. After that a quick explanation on how to turn down migrants and the like could be very useful! :)

Help, i hauled my dead outside(pile) as i build my tomb, sit there for awhile. now tomb is ready my Dorfs wont bury the skeletal remains. follow this instruction still no luck. Edit: remains is in 2 pieces. skull & a body if that matters. (got decapitated).

It's maybe easier because it lets you do the multi-select. But I prefer having them all in the same room, I just have to manually designate each zone.

I need to know the best way to get rid of zombies caught in cage traps I’ve got a sizeable collection going

Build a cage very close to cage stockpile (preferrably in tile next to zombie) and assign all of them to it. Physics say that if cage can contain N zombies then it can contain N+1 zombies as well and DF is perfect at physics. You can also give them Cyclops, dragons, rabbits and other giants for company. Mind- cage have to be close as every tile of distance gives them chance to leg it and cause FUN. Next you reinstall cage in prepared archery range, link it to lever and use them to elevate your archers to legendary. Eventually you can replace cage/archery training with nice hole leading directly to hell (lava) but dwarves love to check personally what's down there so I dont like the idea (keep distance to minimum).

I set a pen in my training area, and assign monsters to the zone. A dorf will haul the creature to the pen, and then whatever squad is training will immediately kill it.

My dwarfs bury the dead only if I make new tomb zones, they don't use already existing ones, even if they are free and allow the burial of dwarfs

when you make one big zone, you're basically creating a large tomb for one person, make several small zones with merely one coffin inside and they'll start claiming those zones when needed

Coffins placed outside of a zone get used too. I usually have one burial room with lots of coffins and no zone. Tombs are just for nobles who demand one imho

@@guidoferri8683 it could also be that everyone is too busy to haul it, which happened to me. Set a couple people to specialize in hauling only in the labour menu. I even have a custom labour for 'viscera cleanup'.
