I hope you keep doing this series, no bite size please! It's the most entertaining and useful on KZbin right now... I also have a question uh, can dwarves marry and/OR have children? Do we have to make double bed bedrooms for that? :)

Dwarves can do both. Marriage happens through dwarves being allowed to socialise together in the same room (i.e a tavern) and if they are compatible, they might end up lovers and then eventually marry. Married couples share a bedroom and a bed, so any bedroom you have functions for the married couple already :) Children are just randomly born through a married couple interacting in the same room.

I had to kick put a dwarven couple out of a bedroom for someone more important and then assigned 1 dwarf to each bedroom. I also gave 1 dwarven kid a bedroom. Does that separate families or do they still sleep together in the same room no matter what?

Love the series, it's a great appetizer before I start playing the game for real (unfortunately still haven't bought it yet)! These are fantastic. It really helps to see the flow and reasons for building things. I'm facing a wall where it is a wealth of information and options. I sit and wonder.. ok, now what next and I dont really understand why I'd build things. So with this series, it has a natural reason to why you'd do x, y, or z, which then leads into a, b and c.. so then you should have d, e, and f. And so on. It helps erode that barrier of feeling overwhelmed and for a new player to DF, only coming into it after hearing stories I have no idea how to get to those stages. I love these series over the byte size clips. Thank you for them!

I wish I had your advice about buying all kinds of cloth the other day. In the spring of my 2nd or 3rd year, one of my dwarfs entered a strange mood and demanded spider silk, but I'd never seen the stuff so didn't know what to do other than wait for the caravan. By the time it arrived they were already running around the fort naked.

Man did I bungle my first ever trading encounter. I mined up a bunch of gold thinking that would be good as money, but the weight thing messed me up. So I only ended up with like 4 hoops of cheese LOL! This is my first time playing so I'm just messing around with the tutorial world right now.

These series are very useful, they're short and informative. I've never played the game, and I was kinda stuck with priorities for my fortress. Don't want it to end too early. Also, one of my dwarfs was in a strange mood, and it ended up with my first artifact. The unique copper mini-forge, Othilnakuth (All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. On the item is an image of two rose cut gems in copper). Have no idea what to do with it.

These artifacts can be super valuable and may bring both prestige and thieves to your fortress. I believe you can make a museum and put them there on display as well.

Super helpful series! 10:48 they requested backpacks from me but trying to reverse-engineer how to tanner-butcher-tame/hunt animals was too much for this evening. I have 3 assigned hunters but there doesn‘t seem to be a hunting ground zone and they always do other stuff. How do I get a good learher production running? Cages and taming? But I can‘t skin birds for leather :D

Hi, I have a question. When it comes to placing an object (beds, walls, doors, etc) through construction, is there a way to place multiple at once without going through the menu each time? (like in similar games, you might hold Shift or Ctrl) Thanks!

I bought the game because of your series and now have to deal with this new addiction. Really fun iterative process of playing and learning on my own and then circling back to things I didn't understand previously in your videos. Could you make a tutorial about dealing with the dead? So far I got to make area to move corpses to, add doors so their stank doesn't propagate, build coffins, then ??? (had to put kid to bed so couldn't figure out the job/task that puts dead in coffin and then buries them or whatever. I'm sure there's plenty of other things to learn on the subject. I saw you have a tutorial for at least memorializing the dead, but I'm talking more there a guy the dropped dead in the middle of the room because someone forgot to store water for the winter.

You need to make the place into a specific zone can't remember which one but once it's done, they'll bury the dead by themselves

Pretty sure my first world gave me no dwarven civs at all :') When I go to look at my map I can't find any blue squares, got only 1 migration wave and the trade convoy never returned a second time as well. It's the year 104 now. I'll make sure to watch out for this in my next world gen! Also nice to know that flashing name indicates legendary skill, was wondering about that! Liking this series, you're a great speaker.

At the bottom right when choosing an embark site there are three buttons: choose a site, reclaim/unretire and choose civilisation. Selecting the third button highlights the holds of whichever civilisation currently selected.

Hey what do yellow highlighted symbols in the equip screen mean? I know red means they don't have anything in that slot equipped and green means they do but what about yellow with the ellipse?

How do the blue water drop marking in the walls works when you mining out the mountan?

It means if you mine out that tile you might get a flood. Sometimes that's what you want, so you can just place the dig order again. But usually it isn't, which is why it auto cancels when it's first revealed.

It's related to their job. Purple is for nobles and administrators, yellow is for carpenters and woodcutters, blue is for wood/stone/whatever crafters, etc. Military dwarves are also color coded, but that is based on their weapon.

They mean the item has a certain quality, different types of symbols dictates what kind of quality it is. So it could be mastercrafted etc. it increases it value

Could you explain why do you smooth everything? Also why do you build wide corridors? do dwarfs bump into each other while walking?

Dwarves will bump into each other and slow down if its a 1 wide corridor. Dwarves like smooth stuff. Looks fancier and nicer.

If they have no specific orders then they'll still do regular jobs. Training counts as an order. Check the schedule button.

After the initial two waves of migrants, I keep getting the message 'The fortress attracted no migrants this season'. Caravans still come, and I have lots of food, meat, drink, fish, open beds, two taverns, and lots of gold. Help.
