@@SerendibAquatics as few others have pointed out the fish are strawberry rasbora (Boraras naevus ) not dwarf rasbora(B. maculatus). Notice the black blotch on side is larger in males & smaller in females. In B. maculatus the black blotch is same size in both sexes.

Just curious how you can tell because to me the maculatus and naevus look identical? Haha , is it the size of the dots or what?

I have Strawberry Rasboras (Bororas Naevus). Mine are kept with Cherry Shrimp and a pair of wild Betta Persephone. My pH and KH are very low, planted tank. GH is high but can't reduce it. Lots of leaves and Botanicals for Bettas. My Rasboras have been spawning on my Java Moss several times now. I never get any fry though. I would like to raise some up. My male Rasboras will turn deep burgundy and will glow an iridescent blue/green when they engage in display competitions to attract the females. The smallest males (usually also most vivid colored) are usually the lucky guys. I really want to try to raise some fry because these and Chili Rasbora are mad popular in my area and they are almost always sold out within a few days of a new batch at LFS.

I tink best option is make a separate tank and season it. Then put much more java moss. Keep your females in that tank for 7 days and feed them good live diet. Then after 1 week put your male. After 2 days remove all adults from tank and keep the tank for 10 days. After 3 days daily observe for small fry. When you see some fry. Start to feed day 1 fry with serendib aquatic prime egg yolk solution up to day 5 of free swim. Good luck !

usually the temperature in their habitats in Malaysia is quite higher than you mentioned, around 26 to 30 degree celcius. and yes, they prefer acidic water. in Malaysia, our local breeders just simply prepare styrofoam box, throw in rain water + lots of catappa leaves + lots of java moss and a dozen of adult fish for breeding purposes. they place the box outside of their house, under mango tree whatsoever, and then done. feed them moina or artemia once a day, just leave them unchecked til few weeks. truly easy
