Hi, great video. I want to try to breed them in a 120gal tote, from you experience what would you recommend?
@GonzaAH10Күн бұрын
I would like to replicate semi wild conditions, I am from Costa Rica so the tropical weather is a huge advantage as well as the water chemistry. I think that I will have the substrate be leaf litter to give hiding space for the eggs and to have a infusoria culture living already in the tote.
@SerendibAquatics16 сағат бұрын
I thing breeding in small breesing setups give much more success rate than large setups. But in 120 setup you can go ahead with breesing meathod 2. Put group of adult fish and much more hiding places. They will thrive in it and breed in it.
@SerendibAquatics16 сағат бұрын
Ok bro. Put some dark pebbles and put the leaf litter on top of it. Eggs will go to the pebble layer. It will have more survivel rate. Infusoria you can grow in separate setup and when you have seen some spawning behaviours in tank. You can start infusoria small volume 2ml dilute with 20 ml of water and distribute in vegitation. Then if have fry they will surview.

@adrianzammit499015 күн бұрын
The purple I talked about I always reminded with 2 or 1 dominant male and the 6 females. The males are very aggressive towards each at least that's my experience
@SerendibAquatics14 күн бұрын
@@adrianzammit4990 what is the tsnk size and what is the total number of live stock in that tank. Pencil fish are bit aggrassive only when they have breeding behaviours according to my experience. But males will fight .. with enough space and dense vegitation will keep the less dominant one in their protection. Daily feed them atleast 2 times. Then they will do good. But as a fact wild cought pencil varities will take long period of time to seattle in a home aquarium.

I recently did a setup change 2/3 weeks ago and still not come out to eat as they did before. Will take another month at least to be normal. Best thing is to set up a preplaned tank when they are joveniles so they will not get stressed as adults.

In summer they go outdoors in a black tub that goes up to 22-23 degrees in peak of summer. Then they breed like crazy. I cant help to wonder what keeping medaka in unnatural hot water does to the metabolism and life span? There are studies on koi and it affects life span greatly.
