I’m setting up a 5.5 Aqueon tank right now. I have a generic “marina s10” hob with a sponge intake that’s cycled… but this video has really been inspiring and makes me wonder if I shouldn’t put off getting the seahorses another month or so while I get something like this set up. I really like the intank mod (I use it on my Biocube 29)!! I’m going for a natural look with macroalgae and a thin layer of fine black sand. Also planning on feeding 50/50 or more tigger pods. 3 big cultures in the basement.

Nice! Im not familiar with the marina S10 HOB but it seems to have a lot of space fo bio media. The sponge may need to be switched out for something less porous so that the seahorses don't get stuck in it. If you use macroalgae i would recommend pre-treating it with panacur in a separate tank before adding it in. This will help prevent introduction of hydroids! I like the bare bottom because its easier to clean and keep my nitrates under control. Having copepods is also a good idea especially if you can culture them yourself :) Good luck!

do your bbs get stuck on the intake sponge?

Yes they do, I usually squeeze them out of the sponge during a water change to prevent nitrate buildup.
