I used to love this hobby as a kid. I loved collecting, assembling, painting and gaming with my miniatures. What turned me off in the end, apart from the insane prices, was that every guy I played with HAD TO WIN AT ALL COSTS and could never just enjoy the 'story and the banter'. Cheats, rules lawyers, neck beards and psychos abounded.

john Smith Yeah. I think I noticed that whenever a die was out of view, i.e. behind the house or toward the corner of the playing field, he miscalled the dice to be hits / wounds when they weren't. Additionally, very speedy in explanation. Being a newer player of the game, if I were to go against him, I'd be lost and probably go along with what he said (don't know the rules all that well).

Definitely something not quite right! Warhammer was always unplayably awful. No game balance, minimal strategy, most of the game is checking through rulebooks or army books. The miniatures were great and a lot of the writing / factions were cool. They got the art side of things down. And it was the 'done thing', the language we all used to speak, so people just played it (no real alternatives). But from a game design perspective, I think it was eight (?) editions of unbelievable, clunky, unbalanced shite. The new Age of Sigmar edition is possibly worse! :-O

The dwarve player cheated he shot his order gun first and said it was long range but he had the better shot thing and said it was 4 and up and rolled and hit 4 or thats what he said he hit 3 times and picked you and dice role of 3. And the the other orden gun was shot and he then said the it was the one with the good shot upgrade not the other that he shot he said that the other was burning shot... Sorry to point that out but it was bugging me...

very quick and very glaring mistakes I noticed (but otherwise good video and enjoying the series). When the dwarfs charged the bat swarms you moved the forest. So you would still be in the forest and ranked units are not able to count their ranks for combat purposes. Your rear rank would have been in the forest still when you overran into the ghouls. So the bat swarm would have still been there (you got 10 on him and he had 9 wounds left.. so he would have had 1 swarm left) and the ghouls on the overrun would have had less damage on their crumble. Second glaring mistake is even though he killed the champion in the challenge, he's still considered in the challenge and unable to be targeted by attacks until the start of the next combat phase (Wight King). which would have disallowed those attacks to come in. As I said, good series, just a few simple rules mistakes :)

Challenge is counted as a separate combat and takes up the whole combat for that turn to resolve. So you can't hit the character in a challenge that turn with other units just because he killed his opponent off quickly. Also, someone already said it but you can't reform when flanked.

I was played versus a guy who have cheated dices. It was very strange to see all time 5, on 10 dices, 5 or 6 give 5 all time, all time all time, never under 5 (five) by shots. His fall of dices was from 20 cm all time... ^^ I was asking him if i can use them dice and he said "i play warhammer from longtime more than you and no body had the privilege to put his hands on mine dices"! Additionally Ash combat reformed his dwarf warriors on the turn he got flank charged by the zombies while the ghouls were still to his front, as per the Unusual situations rule on page 55 of the big rulebook a unit cannot combat reform if it's in combat on more than one side.

Even if the challenge was fought, you still can't put attacks into the challengers. Also hexs and augments ( the re-roll to wound) lasts untill the start of the casters magic phase. Great battle report. My book is in the car hopefully tomorrow I'll get you some page numbers

I believe that when shooting at units behind other units, if the unit you're shooting at is 50% obscured then you are still shooting through hard cover. It dramatically would have affected turn 2 shooting and turn 3 shooting at the Black Knights because turn 2, you were shooting through the wolves (remember it's not direct LOS but if the unit is 50% obscured) and on turn 3 you were shooting through the block of warriors. If you pivoted with the organ gun properly you would see that the cannon was shooting through your own, giving the knights hard cover (it seems that way, but because you never checked it's hard to tell). Also, you randomise in fantasy, you don't assign shots when a unit is down in numbers and you have characters in it.

You're dead right about the hard cover rule for LOS through the Dire Wolves. The other bit, randomising shots, I assume you're talking about shooting at a unit with five or fewer models other than characters and champions. In this case, the shots are assigned on an even basis by the controlling player.

Loved watching this play. Remids me the old classic game "Warhammer: Dark Omen" from 90s. It was a pain to see the vampire troops constantly getting ripped apart by cannons though. I never played a tabletop warhammer game before but I think the vampire side should have split their troops and tried to get to a position that would force the cannons to risk aiming through their own troops or force them to reposition. Hounds and bats were totally wasted at the start of the game. They were the perfect troops to flank the enemy when things got out of hand. Not charging and idling for too long was a big mistake too. But I might be wrong on these thoughts since I do not know the rules of the game. Keep more battles coming, cheers!

Ash - around 16:00 you note that cavalry count as two wounds. This is only explicitly true in the wording of the Regrowth spell. Nowhere in the Vampire Counts AB (or FAQs) does it specify this, it only says that the model must be restored to full wounds (of which Black Knights have 1 on their profile, and take 1 to kill, etc...). How are you determining that it would count as two in this scenario? Also, just a nit-pick - at 41:41 the unit joined by the Wight King expands. He is on a 25mm wide base, they are on 20mm bases. The footprint cannot line up so the character is placed to the side and the unit does not expand (pg 98 BRB). 55:40 - You _cannot_ combat reform if you are engaged on two or more sides. (pg 55 BRB) 50:15 Ghouls forgot Vanhel's. 59:35 You can't attack the Wight King, he was in a challenge. 1:01:13 You are steadfast in a forest so your test would have been on unmodified leadership.

I've never played this game but it looks awesome. Super complex rules though. I have Battle Masters by Games Workshop though. I used to play it in the 90's in High School and just dug it up again to play with some friends. It's super fun, more like a simplified version on Warhammer. I'd love to play this but it seems like it would be pricey, and I don't know if my girlfriend would be down with this money and time consuming geeky hobby.

As already mentioned by several people (with varying degrees of accuracy), quite a few glaring mistakes. Overruns into an enemy unit are treated as a charge, including wheeling, closing the door, maximising base contact etc. so in at least one instance, more models could have been brought into contact (though admittedly, it might not have been possible to maximise fully, due to the limited space). There are other examples, including having a character with a different 'footprint' in a unit. I think the dwarf player should use his Rune of Accuracy when reading the rules lol. Still gonna give this a like though. It is entertaining despite getting some of the rules wrong.

These guys probably don't care to be honest. Imagine: 1) Upper middle-class male (post-high school/college/graduate school) works in tech industry (private sector) makes decent money + good benefits. Career-oriented, his own place (its true alot of nerds obtain an education). Plus coming from a well-to-do family he already has an advantage and is living comfortably. 2) They partake in not only video games, but table-top games, and board-games (or card-games in general) also alot of reading/literature (including graphic novels) 3) They are huge potheads/cannabis smokers (and here in Colorado its legal both recreationally and medicinally)...theres a Game Stop, a Games Workshop, and a carry-out food/sub-shop, + a Marijuana dispensary all in 1 strip-mall / shopping center. 4) All his closest friends are also white-male/caucasian middle-class pothead (and maybe the occasional psilocybin mushrooms/hashish/oils+concentrates) ...softer mind-altering substances...a trip, a smoke...calm relaxing euphoria, surrounded by friends and these hobbies + good music. (Tool, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, QOTSA, Dead Meadow, Samsara Blues Experiment) geeky, middle-class/comfortable, pot-head, music fans, whom grew up together...and have most of the things they want...and then imagine (furthermore) 5) Said guys...don't like children (or wan't children) they treat their lives like eunuchs in Game of Thrones...as if having "private parts" is not important, just something you use to urinate with...nothing more...the idea of marriage/being engaged...a regular bi-level home, a bitching wife in a night-gown, pile of dishes, and 2 kids on the floor crying (that is the scene you come into upon walking in the door) and a golden retriever barking in the backyard named "Lucky"...lol - to these burnout/gamer/nerds - that life = they not only want to stay far away from that life...they fear that life, I'd put a gun under my chin if I had to live like that...another thing to note is most big hardcore gaming/nerds are often sociopaths...(I mean literally sociopathic in nature) they may have a few close friends + relatives/family (as I do, and I keep in touch with them all on a regular basis) but despite that...I like my alone time, and I knew from a young age I was different...weird, took pleasure in alone-time for extended periods of time...even as I got older I didn't see/feel myself "longing" or craving for opposite sex attention, I knew i was weird/different...I mean I was an average sized guy, nothing wrong with me I wasn't deformed plumbing worked fine down there...but I knew I was different...no I have a regular head, 2 eyes, and 2 hands with 10 fingers lol...but I felt different I hated bars, and night-clubs, and "bowling on saturday"...you know typical-thats-what-you-do type thing...the guys I hung around laughed at that stuff, infact they never discussed sex or relationships cause it mean so iittle...they were such hardcore gamers they didn't even realize there was a other world out there, (besides lots of cannabis over the years, your in a bubble) + psychedelics...and lots of games/music/books....you tend to become isolated naturally over time and its something YOU created..and your ok with it...thats what I've come to realize about some of these hardcore nerds....not all of them FIT this parameter...but the ones I do...are in their late 30's...35, 36, 37, 38 years old (I was born in 1980 and most of my closest friends are atleast 1-2 years older then me) but we came from same area, some location, same schools growing up just a few years separated and I knew from a young age "we" (about a group of 3-4 of us) were different...we had friends, and social outlets...and good solid family units...but we were just different...and in some ways I thank the god I don't go through life chasing after 1 thing...(cause most of the guys I know) that are "typical" are 32-33 years old...with 3 children with 2 women, working on 2nd marriage, child-support out the ass...and nothing but work/headache/work/headache/court-dates/more-headaches lol.....thats where your dick gets you...I lost my virginity in my early 20s (nearly 16-17 years ago) and had 2 long-term relationships despite being so introverted...and one of the girls I remain close friends with and keep in touch with (and Stephanie-her name : she was fairly attractive/well-built way out of my league even to this day I think that) she was a gamer too...though not hardcore...just casual once in awhile type girl...she was more ordinary then anything...and see saw me and (my closest friends) as way too closeted/hardcore (dedicated is a more PC word I'd use, but thats b/c it sounds friendlier to us) lol...she is more of a typical individual...a balance if you will...there was no balance to us though...we were 1 thing and that thing only and never apologetic about it, while most guys at my age are going through failed marriages, and back on dating websites and complaining to "buddies" over beer about being single..I'm almost excited to be able to wake up alone in a cool bed...cause thats the thing I never understood why some people hate being alone or single for years (extended periods of time) I personally love it, sure I can make this giant run-on post...but thats b/c I'm ranting (and rarely ever get to, I usually skip comments sections altogether) and I type fast/read fast (always have)...so my apologies for being a bit off-topic...but its all related. I guess its true ( all the years I worked night-shift ) its true what they say...only the freaks come out at night...hey I don't mind when people sling insults/bash or "roast" me or / people I know, I can't possibly think I'd post something like this and not get away with it...but I rarely revisit comments after I have posted one myself...I usually forget about most of the things I've said...anyway I'm a geek, and I love this culture..and I like being single..I honestly couldn't love it more...I can still have friends/family and have a physical social outlet...but I severely dislike children (even though I have an older sister who is divorced with 2 children and I love them but they are also older and my blood) but I can't stand children in general...never wanted children 20 years ago, and certainly (as I inch ever close to 40 years old) don't want them now...so I guess I know ...we're all different to each their own though.

Being in a relationship or having sex with a woman is no big deal. When men constantly talk about women, they put them on a pedestal by default. Men don't need a woman to validate his existence. You're existence is validated in itself. I rather pay for sex and move in with my life. It gets old after awhile to pretend like you care about a woman's interests to get her in the bed one day. I was at a store in my area and when I got done shopping, there was a game shop next door. I checked it out. The owner of the store said they sell nothing but Warhammer stuff. Store looked cool. He taught me how to ensemble a few pieces, paint the minatures, and even let me keep the set and miniatures I built for free. Don't know if I'll be back though. Battling, building displays, and characters are not my thing. I rather play the videogame or read about the lore in a book.

damn. You guys really need to read the rulebook at some point. A ton of non-trivial mistakes that changed the course of the game. If you're gonna play dwarfs, you should definitely give the shooting rules another read and be an expert. Most of that fight your organ guns should have been hitting on fives or sixes because of the obscured targets. Also, casualties come off evenly from both sides of a unit, and there is no 'maximize' move involved in charging. You have to perform the charge such as to maximize to the extent you can. If you can't 'close the door,' then the enemy unit closes on your unit. There is no moving of the units to 'maximize' after the 'door' is closed. Also, if you have the movement to hit a hit a unit in overrun, you move into the unit as if you had successfully made a charge.

Casualties only come off evenly from both sides of a unit when you are removing them from the front rank (i.e. only the front rank remains). Otherwise, you remove them as you please, allowing back rank models to give supporting attacks if possible, unless some are in base contact with units on flanks, rear etc.

One rule they talked about shocked me more than others, but the last time I played was about 15 years ago so that might have changed or I was not just aware of it, as I did not play the Vampire counts : Is it correct that, if he resurrects more troops than there is space on his base, the excess is discarded ?? It seems so random to me. The base is there to help move alot of troops altogether, it does not actually constitue a size limit to the troops. Am I correct or were they ? This surprised me so much.

This game was much more fun to watch. Much less mistakes than another video I attempted to watch. The only thing to add. You can't reform out of combat, if you're base to base with a Champion or model with another stat line. So I'm not sure that reform at 1:02:10 was legal, but overall a good game!

I would have loved to meet these dwarves with my army. I don't play fucken bats n dogs. They suck. MORE SKELLIES! Ditch the zombies too. You can raise new units for free. And instead of 10 black knights and 20 grave guards, take 40 grave guards! Black knights are just faster expensive grave guards. Use Van hels to speed up towards shooty armies! A varghulf or vargheists for some serious flanking and warmachine hunting! Damn... I'm gettin a heart attack by watching this and seeing all that could have been done better :P

+Jedy Zichterman Well a grid would only make sense in a 4x4 or 5x5 game. In Warhammer you can move at any angle, so a grid wouldn't really serve any purpose for measuring when units move diagonally in reference to the grid.

The End Times books are part of the official rule set now, even if you choose not to take anything from Tomb Kings and just have a VC army, or vice versa, they still benefit from the Undead Legions rules. Of course you can always decide with your opponent if you want to play with End Times rules or not, similar to unbound and bound in 40k.

The Nagash books are supplements. With the current power vacuum at GW, some guy at GW who was on crack thought he'd finally update the FAQs (without answering any FREQUENTLY Asked Questions) by throwing the 50% Lords rules and Lore of Undeath and Wizards rules into the amendments. Unfortunately, this seems to translate to some people as 'The End Times rules are now part of the official rules and should be added to those in the main rules book' .
