He loved Whitley but not more than he loved himself. He didn't care about her coming from a rich family, he refused to be a doormat. he handled her firmly but with care as well.

Extactly. He always loved her for her. He never tried to change her. Byron and Julian never knew the real her. I did love how Whitley in return didn’t care about where Dwayne came from either. I love how she also showed him that it’s okay to be wealthy. Their growth is what I love about their relationship. And if you want to have a great relationship there has to be growth.

@@blastomaticdisel6189, to me I think they are the greatest TV romantic comedy couple of all-time. I loved Martin and Gina and Synclaire and Overton. I loved Derwin and Melanie but after awhile they got boring. Derwin should have married Janay not Melanie. I thought after awhile Derwin was way more attracted to Janay than Melanie. I didn’t like Will and Lisa as a couple because I never got the feeling they knew each other that well. Will should have been with Jackie.

I don't care what nobody says! The evolution in the relationship between Dwayne & Whitley is the greatest in the history of television! In the 1st season Dwayne was a bothersome, annoying nerd who was obsessed with Denise Huxtable. 2nd season, He comes back from Japan dressed in a suit and by chance, met Whitley on the way back home, and Whitley found herself intrigued! From Julian, down to the wedding day where she rejected Byron, was romantic, hysterical and pure tv gold! Thanks for the memories!

The evolution of Dwayne was really cool to watch on this show. When he had a crush on her and wanted to be with her he pretty much worshipped the ground she walked on and she didn't respect him. Everyone that was able to enjoy these shows is absolutely Blessed. Generation X 🙏. We are the last of the literate. We had our pagers. We had game. No swiping left or right. We weren't perfect, but compared to the generations after, we were saints. It was the best time to be a kid in America. No matter what the color of your skin was. I even caught jungle fever a few times 😉( grew up in Louisiana, all black school)

There is a big difference in the way Cliff treated Claire…he truly loved and respected her…Dwayne loved Whitley…but he didn’t really respect her, which is why he always felt like he had to take her down a peg or two. A man should never have to constantly announce that he’s a man. The fact that we as a community find this type of relationship ideal speaks to the high levels of toxicity rampant in our marriages today…and why soooo many WIVES are miserable.
