skinny shaming is a thing and i've seen it specially in the Caribbean/Latino culture where you are expected to be "thick", ppl made fun of me saying i had eating disorders, calling me anorexic, bulimic, people said boys only like "real" women and i was just a bag of bones and bones are for the dogs, family members ridiculed me and told me i wasnt gonna be pretty if i didnt gain weight, i wasnt gonna be as pretty as X family member and i wasnt gonna grow, ever since i was a kid i have been getting shit for my weight and worst thing is that its just how my body is so even if i ate till i felt like throwing up or ate all greasy stuff i didnt look any different but got skin problems, people would pick me up without my consent and grab my arms and make fun of how tiny they are, i was scared of: standing up around ppl, wearing tight close, doing sports in school, wearing uniforms, shorts, swimwear i even used to wear extra leggings and an extra shirt under to make my body look "normal" i hated myself so no its not straight up "perfect" being skinny, people just have different struggles

hopeful mochi yes!!! I am super skinny and get made fun of all the time. Whenever I say something about it people reject if or say something like " you can't have problems if you're skinny"
@emmalikesbats32476 жыл бұрын
Same! People overlook skinny people's problems and think that calling us twigs or chopsticks is okay. It fucking isn't. I get skinny shamed constantly. People stare, grab my wrist, one girl grabbed my thigh. I asked her to stop and told her I was insecure, and she just said I shouldn't be insecure about being skinny. Luckily I'm slowly gaining some weight, but it'll take a long while before I'm a "normal" but slim weight.

Yes, skinny shaming is a thing. But most people overlook problems skinny people have. And no, I don't mean slim movie stars, I mean skinny people who have high metabolisms and just can't help it, like myself. I've had countless experiences where people commented about my weight. Of course there's the wrist grabbing, nicknames like "twig" "chopsticks" "chicken legs" etc, "do you just exercise, or eat healthy/at all?", one time a girl wrapped her hands around my thigh, people poke my ribs like I'm some sort of interactive exhibit and not a person. My friends are shocked at the fact I eat more than them, and then go on to say how tiny I am. It doesn't help being half Latino and half white coming from families with average and heavier weights, because 50-year-old aunts also have the need to say I need to "fatten up." I could go on for a while. Wow sorry for the paragraph
@thechosen18806 жыл бұрын
Emzie i so much agree with you, i eat way faster and more food than my friends. My legs are so skinny i were long socks to cover it up. I can even get the clothes i want sometimes because my weist is to skinny. I were a jacket everyday because my arms are so skinny

I understand when people point out your flaws that make you insecure. When I was little I got teased and picked on for my crooked teeth. My adult teeth grew in faster then I lost baby teeth. I had to get a few pulled even though they were healthy. Then a couple procedures to remove old baby teeth that became impacted or pushed forward. I never smile showing teeth and cover my mouth whenever possible. Like yawning and laughing. I'm 22 now but I can't afford braces or Invisalign. It still sucks because I get comments like, "You would be pretty if you fixed your teeth" 😥

I am a 16, 5'10" 135 pound male. When i found oit i lost weight i was 15, almost 16, 5'9", and 126 pounds. I lost this weight because i tried to go on a diet because i felt fat. My brother would always joke about me being fat (even though i wasnt i just had a flabby belly and didnt do exercise). All he would say to make me feel bad for being "fat" was "you're fat". I eventually felt bad for over a year about my weight and i was jealous of people my age because they didnt have flabby bellies. I also during this time ate large quantities of food. And i went on a diet after my brothers told me to stop eating pop tarts for breakfast. When i went on a diet i lost so much weight that i could feel my hips and the outline of my ribs. Now i sometimes get thin shamed by my family. My mom told me that people dont like dating very skinny people and said "they are painful in bed". I feel bad ow for being skinny but i can barely gain weight. I eat junk food and i wont gain anything.

I'm In A Vegetative State Gaming I'm really sorry. It seems like people will find a flaw no matter what a person looks like. It seems like the only solution is try your hardest to love yourself, but I really shouldn't be talking. I've lost weight since my preteen years, but I still constantly look at my stomach, almost like a habit, and refuse to wear tight shirts, crop tops, etc. Regardless, I don't even have to know what you look like to know that you're beautiful. Please believe me when I say that.

I'm In A Vegetative State Gaming wait you said you’re a 16 year old who weighs 135 lbs... and you said when you were 15 you were 126.. and ate junk food to gain weight but you didn’t? You gained 9 pounds... but I recommend eating meats instead of junk food, it’s unhealthy... meats give you... well meat and protein... I am a female and 3 years ago I was barely 100 lbs... ever since(just because I started having an appetite) I ate a lot of steak, bacon, junk food, all that stuff and some fruits and vegetables... and now I’m like 124 lbs, and I was born skinny and still am... if you’re trying to get some weight and muscles go to the gym with a protein shake, and eat... that’s what most guys are doing today... that I know of, btw muscles weigh more than fat so yeah.. good luck!

Tbh ik "heavier weighted" people do struggle but when Jasmine said that ryland was perfect (im not sure if she was joking or not) because he was skinny, i felt sort of offended and i understand the video of what shane was doing so he could tell ryland how hard it is but im skinny and im not perfect, i'd rather have more meat and struggle buying clothes than being too skinny and not having clothes that fit me. I feel like heavy weighted people want to be skinny and skinny want to be more heavy. Some people think "oh you dont understand, youre skinny" we dont understand the struggle of being thicker but we do have the struggle of being skinnier. 99 percent of the time we feel just as insecure about our weight just as thicker people, we just have different body types. Sorry for the long paragraph.

Niq i know i'm glad i can see someone relate because the girls in my family are thicker and i am the only skinny one, besides my older brothers but they are not that skinny theirselves and between my two bestfriends one of them is heavier but she's not fat so i dont relate to her and my other bestfriend is skinny but we dont really talk about that kind of stuff

I agree. Up until this year every one of my ribs were visible. I gained a bit more weight but I'm still awfully skinny. Girls actually taunt me and once a girl asked how it was possible that every boy in the school hard a bigger ass than me. The whole table laughed and I pretended to dump my tray and cried in the bathroom. I always wear jeans and some type of clothing that covers my arm bc I hate my toothpick limbs. Even my friends hurt my feelings bc they say I'm so tiny and cute and a girl Gianni said, "look at your tiny butt. Its so small! You're like a little baby!" Like omfg I just want to be thick and meat society's standards please!

I’ve heard something a long time ago that freaked me out but it made sense. Someone mentioned that “body types” in the media have become fashion trends rather than just someone’s figure. That’s why in media you’ll see them talking about “being skinny/slim and having no fat” is best one time then later say “curvy and meat of their bones” the next. The media will pick at every insecurity on both ends and it sucks. I cannot imagine how it would feel being shamed for being skinny/small (because I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum) and I’m sorry you feel this way. No one deserves that. This video is interesting too because I think Shane has body dysphoria too, which reminded me of my sister when she started high school. She ended up being 98 pounds at 5’5 and after losing that 50-60 pounds she still thought she was fat. In her case, she wasn’t healthy, but in your case and it other people’s cases, health isn’t an issue at all. No one/not everyone will ever be satisfied with our bodies and again it sucks.

One of my insecurities is actually being too skinny and the acne on my face. Bcuz of that I now suffer from very low self esteem. Almost everyday people say I look like a toothpick, I can’t fight bcuz I’m too skinny, or I need to grow meat on my bones. Or they’ll even ask the question if I even eat food. I can understand how Shane feels but except for me being fat, I’m too skinny. People this is y u think before u speak bcuz u may never know how it can deeply affect someone.

Skinny shaming is definitely a thing, I know some people won’t feel that way because everyone would kill to be skinny but for a lot of skinny people, it’s not the best either. Sure, people praise you for having a small waist and a thigh gap and stuff like that but then people will ONLY look at your body which makes you feel like if you were bigger, people wouldn’t talk about you at all. It’s like all you have is your body which slowly makes you obsess over your body. I was praised for my skinny body all the time when I was younger which made me obsessed over it, whenever I gained weight I would be like “eh I could still see my RIBS I’m still skinny, people will still love me” which is a not healthy mindset to have. And when people would point out that I’ve gained weight, I’d feel bad and even when they would say I’m still skinny, it wouldn’t matter cause I would still obsess over that tiny bit of fat. And I would think that I’m super skinny and that nobody would be skinnier than me and if someone was skinnier than me I would get upset which was not good at all. I’ve gotten over that but I’m pretty sure I’m still too skinny according to my height and age but I know for sure that I’m way healthier now compared to when I was younger but I do still obsess over my weight but not that much anymore. Being skinny just puts a lot of pressure on you and honestly it just kinda sucks. Even now I still feel uncomfortable when people talk about my body like I like being skinny but can you not talk about it like it’s the only good thing I have? And once I gained a lot of weight but I was still “skinny” because I was way too skinny before so there wasn’t a huge difference but during that time, people would say that I’ve let myself go or that I’m starting to not look as skinny anymore so I started to stop eating as much which made me upset but it was probably for my own good anyway, I was gobbling down food like a wolf so I probably needed to control myself a little
@Vincisomething6 жыл бұрын
I think "skinny shaming" mainly targets skinny girls that aren't seen as "real women" because they don't have curves. So, in a way it does go both ways. Although in this society, it's almost desirable to be skinny so I don't know if it's 50/50 in western culture, but it's definitely both ways.
