This is a beautifully delivered performance. The strings blend so well with their fine tone, thanks in large part to minimal or, most often, no vibrato; it makes them play so much in tune! The natural horns and trumpets have their elegant blare, and everyone plays with such sprezzatura. The timpanist has wooden mallets which make a delicious tone, and Herr Cambreling has chosen perfect tempos. The second movement in particular has such schwung. A real pleasure!

I first heard this song in Music Appreciation 101 class in about 1987 while in college, then promptly forgot about it. Except I remembered the melody. Now 35 years later I was trying to find the name of the piece and it was driving me crazy! I finally heard it at the end of Soylent Green movie, of all places. What a masterpiece of music!

Ren & Stimpy cartoon show too, Fantasia, the list is endless. You want to hear it live - it's unspeakably beautiful. Very quiet in passages. Much quieter than even a master recording. I wasn't expecting that. Live, the performance is so ridiculously better than any recording on any sound system can possibly replicate; not by a bit, by a great deal. If you go, you won't be disappointed. Don't buy cheap seats. The closer you are the the orchestra the more involved you become. Experienced theatre goers always get in quickly so to get notified sign up for emails from your local orchestra. I waited 30 years until I got to see it live. Every year waiting, then 3 Beethoven symphonies in one week.

Beethoven used the instruments to create the sound of nature that nobody taught that it could be possible. Even though all of his symphonies are great, I like this one plus the symphonies #5 and #9.
