Günther Hochhäuser is a passionate marksman who fights to maintain the traditions of his homeland, Upper Bavaria.
The Christian Social Union, who has been in power here for decades, could get a drubbing in upcoming elections -- to Hochhäuser’s dismay. Marksmen's clubs stand for everything Bavaria is famous for: folk costumes, cultural lore and tradition. Their chairmen include illustrious public figures, such as former Pope Benedict and Prince Max, Duke in Bavaria. Marksman Günther Hochhäuser says "We are a pillar of strength." But that pillar looks to be on increasingly shaky ground. Bavaria and even the seemingly timeless Inn-Chiemgau shooting club are being overtaken by the tides of change. Until recently, voting for the conservative CSU party was a given. But recent polls say that the CSU will suffer big losses in the upcoming state elections. Many Bavarians are angry that German interior minister Horst Seehofer, a member of the CSU, recently came close to bringing down the country's governing coalition. Axel Rowohlt reports.

All over Europe traditions are extinct. This is because today generations kinda forget what history, culture, education, religion, respect, or duty means. People do not want to fight for their country, people do not want to read a book, learn, and follow a tradition. I do not even talk about religion. NOPE. people want money, houses, cars, clothes, a circus, and having fun. Free sex, free credit, free behaviour...who cares about the duty to serve their country, who cares about preserving traditions? Or even get a real strong education....Nope...This is because somebody wants people to be dum and superficial and unable to think and ask good questions.

So you need to be wise and give it to the one that deserves it and that can do a good job. This is why we have so many corrupt and fool politicians.

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. This Bavarian point of view is much different of what sports competitions used to show us, l think we deal with a generational matter about traditions. As long as we enjoy mountain bike or climbing, everything changes, we feel like home no matter where on this planet, we admire the local traditions, city celebrations, farmers feasts and music bands parade, there is plenty of room in our hearts for everything, sports are helping us to be open minded kind of people. Exclusive clubs for few chosen ones are creating frustration sadness and once again, isolation that l do not like at all personaly, if you recall Sissi, her rebel way to roam around the whole Europe like a vagabond, dating musicians painters or architects in Vienna Budapest or Paris, that is the true Bavarian nature guys, think about it. A lot of Bavarian farmers brought their traditions to the States, is not casual that Texas ancient Bavarians are the most conservatives

My family is half German and most of my German ancestors were from Bavaria. For whatever reason they decided to leave that beautiful country and start a new life in Pennsylvania.

It depends on when they left. Many Germans left due to poverty or the lack of freedom they had back in the homeland. Keep in mind most Germans came to the US in the 1800s and land was being given away. Like actually granted to anyone who wanted it. Except for those who weren't eligible at the time.

The north of Germany lost everything great about it. Berlin was once a great imperial capital. Now not. Munich is the only part of Germany that brings back the glory days of the Kaiser.

Culture and tradition have their values, but nothing is more important than truth and freedom. I wouldn't bother about Catholicism too much, but rather seek for Jesus who is the only truth, and freedom that he gives to anyone who trust in him.

There once existed a German sailors' culture - was it ever real or has it always just been made-up, I'm not sure. Anyway, Russian captains and Philippine crew on their German ships, registered in Liberia or Madeira, just aren't interested in German sailors' songs. Try your best, Bavaria ...

Very good debate fans, which kind of traditions do we care about in the end. Web connection is helping us run wild to enjoy cyber trips all over the world, the fact that Chinese planted skyscrapes everywhere did not removed the locals deep affection for ancestors traditions. If we try to follow the human nature, for how much we evolve we still need roots, keeping alive our ancestors traditions, but at the same time we can not live in an open air museum as relic subjects, Life must go on fans. This video reminds me the Sissi Austrohungarian Kaiserin, She was a Bavarian girl, you try to check if it's true, that also Marie Antoniette of France as well as Russian Katherine the Great were born in Bavaria, because this patriarchs dominating nature is the answer fans

Marie Antoinette was not born in Bavaria. She was Austrian. Neither was Catherine, a quick google search could of proved that. In fact none of them had anything to do with Bavaria.

When a certain civilization is so perfect like the Bavarian one is very dangerous to ... keep things freezed in time, we need to focus on how to evolve from now on, which trend to follow, mostly giving the local resources a better use. How many more vertical gardens are requested to neutralize pollution in Bavaria? There is the great Bayern Company for chemical research, now we have the technologies to understand how parasites, insects, bugs comunicate, this huge biologycal research laboratory can bring a lot of important welfare to Bavaria or. ..we call traditions only using guns go out hunting when all animals were exterminated a century ago? Think about it friends Ok? What kind of future do we want for young generations anyway? Oktoberfest getting drunk?
