In an ideal world we would be helping the planet without an ulterior motive, but in our world if something is not profitable or enjoyed by elites and the big middle class (pretending to be elite) it’s simply not sustainable. It’s not the best system but to make the wealthy or superficial pay for an environmental cause is our best shot yet.

@@Orin9139 I can't find fault with anything you've said. How un-KZbin is THAT? 😐 Getting the wealthy to do something - anything - useful or helpful with their money is an odd and daunting challenge. Diamonds are not particularly rare especially today, Thanks De Beers for a fake market. In antiquity, gemstones were more often the stones of choice, not Diomands. Jewelry and precious gems are a big racket with one of the biggest profit spreads of a commodity upwards of 500% profit and because of the public's ignorance, they get away with it. Only topped by the Art market

props to Mr. Hunter, he truly looks dedicated and impassionated with his work... :) also, TIL (or realized) that apparently pearls are not only a natural cycle kind of thing, but rather (incredibly) a way for the organism to protect itself? perhaps? but more specfiically its offspring, if i understood... [i don't wanna talk bad about the "60 pearls per oyster and then they die" thing, but it seems like the body treats it as a tumor/cancer/foreign threat - we, i suppose, must find the best ways to harvest these resources out of their systems, yet that must take a lot of energy out of it, but then it's sad to consider that the thing not only died for it, but those are basically "tears of an oyster" once it's all done ...]

Oh, yeah. Lab grown diamonds are less harmful to the environment. If you ignore the massive amount of energy and resources that are required to make them. The only real complaints about natural diamonds have to do with the methods being used to harvest them. Similar methods are being used to harvest the materials needed for a lab to manufacture diamonds. Why aren't you complaining about them too?

@Hollylivengood11 ай бұрын
The title actually doesn't say anything about artificial gems. It says precious gems with a conscience. This has to do with artificial gems and also artificial environments.
@billgraney11 ай бұрын
@@Hollylivengood And yet in common parlance and in reference to infamous “blood diamonds,” manmade diamonds and other gems are invariably the items of contrast. The volume of production and the very low profile of the pearls discussed leaves manmade gems as the implicit topic of a video offered for general cosumption. Hence, the title is misleading.
