As a student in the medical field, its hard to not notice a growing buzz around AI in healthcare. AI has is being labeled as a game-changer in how healthcare providers diagnose, treat, and even manage medical conditions. The ability AI technology has to analyze data and from that identify patterns, makes it so clinicians can get almost instantaneous treatment plans and advice. I loved how the video mentioned one of the most promising aspects of AI in healthcare is the ability to analyze large amounts of patient data quickly and accurately. AI algorithms, give medical professionals a way to analyze electronic health data to identify trends and patterns that may not have been seen by the human eye. We can just imagine the impact that this is having and will continue to have. It is going to lead to quicker and hopefully more accurate diagnoses, which will hopefully free up some time for physicians so they can make a more tailored treatment plan. This growing promise in improving patient care by providing personalized medicine will hopefully lead to less and less people taking years to be able to find a diagnosis. Hopefully, we can get to a point where clinicians will always be able to tell a patient what is wrong. With the amount of data that is being anaylized by AI and how quickley it can do it, hopefully it isn’t too far into the future. There is a caviot to all of this though. How do we know that AI will take in all peramiters of human health? For example, a physician can walk into the room and have all of their senses help come up with the diagnosis, AI requires everything to be inputed into its data base to make a conclusion. Also, how can we trust the information that AI is gathering? Is it using sources where people can put information on that hasn’t been verified by more reputable sources. I believe there are so many great and wonderful things that AI is doing and will continue to do, but I also believe that if we aren’t carful in monitoring and limiting AI, there could be a lot of destruction in the healthcare world. Patients should understand that at the end of the day, it is their physician who his treating them, not a super computer. Although, AI may play a vital role in the physician being able to come up with the information they need, they will be the ones who ultimately make all of the medical decisions.

As a patient, AI has stopped a lot of my health anxiety, as I can ask it nuanced questions instead of relying on general information on the internet. To my EFL teacher: Like any change in anything, everything always goes through a stage of integrating it into society. Regarding AI, I think that this is an inevitable process and it will not be without problems. There are also issues of copyright and copying the voices of famous voice actors. I take it for granted as a process of all these integrations and it's interesting to watch. But there is one drawback that it seems to me will be difficult for any AI to overcome, and this is making any decisions where the cost of error is high. Any use of AI to make important decisions without human participation is associated with risk, and this indirectly includes automatic control of a car. It seems to me that the use of AI will be limited to mostly being an auxiliary tool.

Are you sure about 5 minutes? How many percentage of people are willing to let go of 5 minutes of waiting for a chance to speak to a cashier? And can that percentage of people sustain the supermarket paying the salary of those cashiers? Let's say, because of not paying people to be cashiers (and maybe even stockers as they are replaced by robots), the automated supermarket can cut prices. Suddenly, weekly groceries from an auto-supermarket is, say, $150 compared to $200. How many percentage of people are willing to pay that difference for a chance to speak to supermarket workers? Can those percentage sustain the traditional supermarkets with their reduced customer base? I notice in Europe that many supermarkets now already have scan-yourself checkouts, reducing the need for cashiers (still there for elderly people who don't want to learn or foreign tourists). Fast food restaurants reduced cashiers with their touch screen boards. And more and more people use those facilities. Hell, even where I'm at in Jakarta, new fast food restaurants have touch screen boards to order menus. Even with a much lower minimum wage than more advanced countries, it still is a big saving for them to reduce human workers. It doesn't have to be terrifying. We don't bat an eye ordering airline tickets online nowadays, when 50 years ago you would still have to go to a travel agent or give them a call to get an airline ticket. I don't miss going to the music store to talk with the store clerk, and I don't miss having to talk to anyone to order pizza delivered to my house. It's just a matter of getting used to it. Or maybe I'm just more introverted than most. :D

In my opinion, the continued success of AI depends on continued investment in this industry. The main thing is not to forget about human safety when modernizing.

You are reaching into the profound depths of fiction. Don't get me wrong, i'd prefer the cars fixed themselves. Instead of how it is today, where I had to go to trade school for 2.5 years to get certified to fix cars....just to not make any money because the garage takes 90% of what you pay for repairs. But at the same time, its "fiction" because car companies will do like Hyundai and make the cars "not worth repairing" so it gets replaced instead of repaired, or like the Germans, where if you want your Mercedes repaired, you have to take it to someone that has all the special tools and codebooks to swap out the piece without messing anything else up. Between you an me though, id love to leave my tools behind and make a living selling mini R2-D2 units that repair your car on the go lol.

@rtjmlive70974 жыл бұрын
@@bendavis8571 I appreciate your optimism, but you are oversimplifying things. Cell phones have no moving parts. Microchips can last forever, moving parts do not. Also, cell phones benefit from "human protections". When you are hiding from the rain, so is your phone. When you are indoors away from the cold or extreme humidity, so is your phone. Cars do not have this luxury, and from the day they leave the factory, they will spend virtually their entire lives under the hot sun and under the cold moon. In the rain, in the snow, in the salt. Any kind of "self repairing module" attached to a car would itself be subject to the same environmental conditions and would have a finite lifespan. The "self repairing" component would need also its own attached "self repairing" module, which in turn, would also need one. ect, ect ect.

My problem is when people single out today as being different or worse. Is it worse than being a *literal* slave? Being dehumanized by Bolshevism or Nazism? Is it worse than being used as cannon fodder by your local baron? Etc. There is a different today though - we have far more freedom to act than people in the past did. The world has *never* seen anything like the BLM marches that put 15 million people in the streets in the USA alone within weeks of George Floyd's murder, or the 250 million people who went on strike in India last month for a more equal society because of one inciting social media post.

Impatiently waiting for these times to come when people won't use other people (even if it's just "voluntarily" to get paid for the service/work) for physical (and not only) tasks. People don't seem to trust each other much (think politicians, specialists, corporate people, military, even their neighbors) but people don't object systems that fiercely, that's why these technologies will be accepted more easily. And nothing is perfect, nor humans or these robots, AI whatever they call it. People object AI making death and life decisions but humans tend to make mistakes (quite often actually, think wars, drink driving and many other things).

And. if anyone thinks those cameras are there for your security in an increasing number of Chinese restaurants think again in terms of social merit. It is inevitable that AI will allow someone to die in a car crash because you chewed with your mouth open. The reality is that AI will force conformity if allowed to through fear. Spying eyes are not yet at their apex. Not even close. With all the data collected on everybody, deciphering it is still a computational problem despite high tech algorithms. Data collection is going to increase so that your eye movements and microgestures and everything and on and on will get analysied even beyond what they are now. The big breakthroughs will come when quantum computers can sift thru gestures and eye movements and everything else that can get quantified of millions of people to spot someone, for example, at a bank window ready to pull out a gun. But what if it turns out 90% false positives. AND with milleanials reversal of morals -- calling right wrong and wrong right-- you could get punished for working hard and attending church but rewarded for using and selling hard drugs. Women might get paid for being mills to grow fetuses to harvest organs, and to do so paid by the social government through taxation of hard working adults who morally object to such practice and abortions in general. If you have convictions the government doesn't like which can be predicted and identified by a model then in isolation you go. Or worse. Its all a mater of time. The technology isn't evil; it's what modern self-righteous publicans, social politicians and totalitarian governments will do with it thinking they can create a moral eutopia on earth by laws and technological enforcement.
