Depends on what you mean, the war was started to prevent the expansion of NATO/USA into Ukraine, for Russia it is a very necessary war. Of course Ukraine or USA could just have agreed not to expand into Ukraine and there would have been no war. But USA really wanted Russia to invade Ukraine so they could force their puppets in EU to cut themselves off from Russian resources and become dependent on USA resources. So for USA it was perhaps not a necessary war but a very desirable one. Russia will likely get Ukraine blocked from NATO, and USA succeeded in destroying EU economic future. So both side got what they wanted. Everyone happy execpt the hundreds of thousands of families that lost their sons/fathers/brothers of course.
