I struggle a bit with how to practice harmonic awareness. I find that i tend to default to memorization eventually the more i practice something and i have to remind my self to find ways that focuses more on visualizing because that makes it stick more. I have an issue practicing in certain keys for example because my visualization is bad.

​@@WeissGuitar I guess my problem is when i try to find my way around any key except D major (D# is particularly difficult because ) i have to rely much more on chaining together certain chords/arpeggios, scales, etc, because i relate them to each other, and i think that's kind of a shortcut by using "memory" instead of visualization and it makes me bad at seeing outside of that specific path. In order to avoid this when practicing uncomfortable keys i make an effort to visualize before i play, and that seems to help. I've had a hard time finding anything online about good ways to practice this kind of thing. I probably just have to be patient with it though, but i feel like it's kind of a mental exercise and that it might be important to be cognitively aware of practicing properly in a way that builds towards this ability to fluidly visualize the diatonic pattern from anywhere on the fretboard. But maybe i've solved my own problem and all i need to do is simply just visualize more lol :D
