I actually got to meet Norman several times back in the 1970s. I was singing in a chorus that performed his "To St. Cecilia "....a neat piece! I actually obtained his permission to add and sing (in the tenor line) an unwritten High C during the final choral chord. He was amazing! The piece heard here is fantastic!

Heard the Coast Guard Band last night (6/28/24) at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana, IL. Still a phenomenal group of fantastic musicians. Several Illinois alums in the band.

Played this both in high school All Region Band and again in college at Sam Houston State U. in 1980. And then, years later on an outdoor concert with the US Marine Band.

I played this in All-State Band back in 1978...one of my favorite band pieces of all time. Nice playing, everyone, especially considering the crazy fast tempo of the 3rd mvt. You know, Maestro, it's a lot harder for wind players to play offbeats at that tempo than it is for percussion!
