@Belette holt fente it's cheap and it's cheerful, and if you actually watched the video and heard the history behind it. Then you'd realise that quite often it was produced in some of the less posh areas of the UK as it was a fairly inexpensive way to produce a hot meal for people as well as very filling and moreish. Us Brits don't always like having fancy food, sometimes all we want is great grub that fills us up and means we can get a crack on with whatever work we need to get done. Also some of the best chefs in the UK love a good old-fashioned "Chish and Fips" (name of a VERY popular place here in Norwich) when they're tired of fancy stuff, just look up Gordon Ramsey or Heston Blumenthal on here, as they both have fancy fish and chips recipes.

I've lived in the Toronto area all my life and halibut is the standard. In fact, if fish and chips are on the menu at a regular restaurant (not a fish and chip shop) halibut is usually the only option. It suits me. I've had cod, pollock and haddock and halibut is far superior in my opinion, although you pay through the nose for that quality. At home, I use frozen battered haddock (Jane's) and it's quite a nice, affordable option.

Love the way, Emily Griffith handles the fish. She holds the fish and lays it back into the bins with such kindness even though it is dead. It appears she is respectful of the sacrifice of her bounty. I've changed the channel on some cooking shows because of the way some cooks seem to mock their bounty. Hake is by far the best fish for fish and chips and has the added bonus of being around 25% cheaper than cod, its more delicate to work with but as the cute girl said its more meaty when cooked😉

There's plenty of Multinational Fish and Chips Franchises out there. I'm not sure how things will work out with Japan releasing nuclear waste in the Pacific. The quality of the fish might be affected. Remember one of the causes of Somali pirates was nuclear waste dumping close to the Somali coast and big Foreign trawlers overfishing in deeper Somali waters.

I have to have tartar sauce with my fish and chips. Malt vinegar is good too though.
@id10t982 жыл бұрын
It's funny how some people like tartar and some dont, then some put it on certain fish, but not others. I also find the variation in tartar's incredible also!

I will have to fly there from the states and have some fish & chips. I travel from Alaska to Rhode Island every couple of years for my haddock. My favorite! You guys are making me hungry. When I was a kid, your order was wrapped in newspaper also. Those days are gone. Also, haddock is hard to find in RI. However, it is more plentiful in northern New England.

Fish and chips is a fairly easy-to-prepare dish for me. So I have recently become obsessed with making this dish. I found this video very helpful in preparing the dish Authentic fish and chips really do look very tasty! I would love to go to London one day and try this dish!

Don’t go to London, go to Yorkshire coastline or South west area such as Brighton, Plymouth, Cornwall etc.

Fresh fish. Great! I wish Fish and Chips made this way, would be available where I live in Germany.

Given how iconic and ubiquitous they are in the U.K., you'd think that fish & chips would have more of a presence here in the United States. There does seem to be a cultural connection between the two countries. I love fried fish. So, I wish fish & chips were a "thing" here in the U.S. I mean, we have the "chips" part of the equation covered. That's for sure. We've got all varieties of French fries. But, vinegar? That's not a popular American condiment for fries. I've never tried vinegar on fries. It seems like an interesting combination, however.

It's not mandatory to have the vinegar, they always ask

Chips and fries are totally different. Chips are just so much better.
@Rudenbehr2 жыл бұрын
Because we already have ubiquitous fried foods in America. Fried fish and fries would just be another dish among others.

I lived in Florida for 8 years and whenever they tried to do fish and chips it was never the same. Glad to be living back in the Uk haha. But Yeah its an odd one people seemed to like Catfish over there more so then cod.

Cos we have much better things to eat that fish and chips. I've had Poppie's in London twice. Meh. I shouldn't have expected much; after all, it's just fish that is fried. Come to Los Angeles where we have the best authentic foods from around the world. It's expensive. But then again, In-N-Out is cheap is better than any fast-food burger joint you can find in England.

I like fish and chips. And the players like fish and chips. We had fish and chips. Nobody had any soup before, nobody had any pudding afterwards. And it's one of the best things you can eat because it's full of protein.

It's science. Cold batter in hot oil immediately seals the fish.

If you ever come to Liverpool (UK), you need to swing by Mossley Hill and visit "Chris's Chippy". Their Haddock and Chips are amazing. But, it's more likely you'll be visiting London so Poppies (as shown in this video) is absolutely amazing for Haddock and Chips. I'd recommend the Poppies in Spitalfields (their original) or the one in Covent Garden - but try to avoid the one in Soho/Leicester Square.

Has to be beef dripping. Very important point about draining properly otherwise the fish and batter retains too much fat and water from the fish and becomes soggy.
@alpmeyda2 жыл бұрын
I can’t believe they use seed oil and get away with it.
@Robert-bh2jt2 жыл бұрын
@@alpmeyda I know. Beef dripping lasts a lot longer too. When these seed oils have hit 185 consistently over a few days it is time to throw it away.
