I've always thought this scene was so underrated. People talk about how loud and annoying Donna was in The Runaway Bride, but when I think of this episode, this is the first scene that comes to my mind. The moment that shows how Donna manages to cut right through the Doctor's defenses and see into his soul after he's been through such a painful loss. She sees how much he's hurting, and she sees how dazzling and wonderful he is, but also how ruthless and terrifying he can be. It's crazy that this episode was just meant to be a one-off, because this scene I think serves as the very foundation of their epic friendship and how important they would become to each other.

Yeah, we got lucky, because RTD was ready to pull Uno Reverse card for series 4 - instead of Donna and Doctor bff interaction, we might get Doctor that falls in love for Penny Carter (probably she would be played by different actress, not the one in Partners in Crime) when she is just seeking for adventure. Donna were supposed to appear in the series finale, like many other characters. I wonder how weird series 4 would like in this case

God I miss the first RTD Era so much. Don't quite understand the logicstics of how RTD managed to make the show incredibly dark and gritty, but also incredibly warm and heartfelt at the same time. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us over the next year or so.
@Multiversal_Productions Жыл бұрын
The more I rewatch the revival era, the more I realise that RTD had this way of making a show perfectly comprehensive for children without treating them like toddlers. Moffat had great episodes under RTD's run that fit the theme but once 11 came along, it was too fairy tale like then 12 was too dark, tho S10 found a good mix. but RTD did just nail it with the right overall theme for the show.

This theme is used in: 1. The Runaway Bride 2. Gridlock 3. The Lazarus Experiment 4. Last of the Time Lords 5. Time Crash 6. Partners in Crime 7. The Sontaran Stratagem 8. The Poison Sky 9. Journey's End 10. The End of Time Part 2 It's no wonder it's so memorable. My personal favourite use of it is when Donna returns home and reunites with her Grandad in the street. Suits the scene perfectly.

It’s interesting how from the Runaway Bride onwards; Murray’s music became more orchestral & ‘warm’ if that makes sense? His earlier Series 1 & 2 stuff was a mixture but there was some more ‘tinny’ kinda music if that makes sense.

I thought bringing Catherine Tate into Dr Who was a really bad idea, it would just be her trying to be shoe horn jokes in all the time. Turned out to be one of my favourite companions. She was funny, but acted with real emotion and passion. The end of the fires of Pompeii spring to mind.
