Thanks NST, for the people saying he should have been let go if you suspect a person is DUI you CAN NOT just let him go, you observed him driving the vehicle at that point he Must be placed under arrest there is no discretion on that no matter how much you would want to let him go. What's to say a mile down the road they don't switch drivers again, then get into a fatal accident that one's on you cause you let them go

I worked at a Barbershop in Tampa, Florida, for many years. We had loads of cops and deputies, State guys... Some of the deputies told us that whenvthey pulled someone over for a "normal" infraction, and they had their license, registration and insurance, "it was such a pleasant change" they would usually just warn the driver! That was the first i began to realize how many drivers dont have licenses, etc.

I was really sick leading up to my last birthday when my license expired. I knew it was expiring, but it was 2 days late before I got to the dmv to renew it, and I was worried. Why do people take it so casually? It’s like asking for trouble. $30 or whatever, is not worth jail, fines, etc. same with renewing registration and keeping up insurance.

Plenty here in SC. I've seen some tags that expired in 2020. Depending on the age & mileage of the vehicle, the cheapest annual registration fee is $65. I can safely assume if they don't bother to pay their annual registration, the likelihood they lack insurance, and/or a valid license.

I love all the tips you can learn from these videos. One, don't answer questions that don't relate directly to your license, registration, or insurance. You are under no obligation to engage in any conversation with a police officer. "Officer I don't answer questions from law enforcement unless they relate directly to my license, insurance, or registration," is a perfectly polite, and more importantly, perfectly legal response to anything they ask. NEVER answer questions about another person. You are responsible for you. Period. NEVER consent to a search. If they need your permission, they don't have cause, if they don't have cause, they don't have the legal right. If they have cause, they don't need to be wasting time asking your permission so you can make their job easier! Any doubts about what I've just said, show it to a lawyer and ask them. They'll back me up 100% every single time. Cops are not your friends, they are not there to keep you safe, or even to keep the community safe from you. They are there because they work for the district attorney and their sole purpose is to collect evidence of crimes that can generate revenue for the city, state, and government.

In Arkansas it's legal with an approved card. It costs about $350 to get the card and most people can't afford that unless they have a really good paying job.

Just my opinion here but I think that neither one of these two gentlemen has any respect for rules or laws. (Multiple infractions on the stop.) The laws covering impaired driving are intended to prevent injury and loss of life and are a result of a lot of carnage on public roadways. What good are the laws if they are not enforced? By demonstrating that there are consequences for actions perhaps it will get through their skulls that it’s better to not drive under the influence. If they can understand that then maybe they can save their own lives. I am pretty sure they will never be concerned with possibly killing an innocent family while intoxicated. Good job by law enforcement here and we will never know if they saved lives in the future of these two but they were doing the job they are paid to do and doing it well.

B.S Both were polite, didn't lie, and allowed a search. And the young man was not impaired. Heck, he did better than I could have and I don't drink or do drugs. Arkansas has a lot of poverty and not an abundance of good paying jobs. A lot of those people are having rough times with the costs of living during these times of major inflation. It's unfortunate some have to squeak by and can't afford to pay their tag fees. At least he's trying to make money doing door dash. I'm sure he has learned to take care of theses issue now. But I regress, I'm sure you are never in error and a perfect pillar of the community...

Never said I was perfect. But if never driving impaired and always having a valid driver’s license and insurance is perfection then maybe I am. The point I was trying to make is that not only do innocent people die every day in this country because of inebriated drivers but so do inebriated drivers. The ASP Trooper may very well have saved these two from their own bad judgement. He said he was taking the driver for a blood draw so if he passed that he would not be charged with dui but he did admit to smoking shortly before being pulled over. Why not leave it up to the court system to judge the evidence rather than have a trooper act as judge and jury?As for “never lied” I don’t see how you could know that. You obviously believed the Door Dash story but if money is in such short supply where did the marijuana come from? And where did the gas money come from for a long distance Door Dash drive? Why not spend it on a license plate and avoid getting pulled over and fined? Should expectations be set so low that even smoking marijuana before driving be overlooked? I think these two gentlemen would be insulted if anyone tried to excuse them because they didn’t know better. As for those who think they got a raw deal it is pretty obvious that they have never lost a family member from a bloody crash involving a drunk driver. At the end of the day here these two have some fines to pay, the car is not totaled (uninsured) and nobody has to come up with funeral expenses or hospital costs. These policeman knows damn well this young man is not impaired. They keep asking him the same question. They should have just written the citation and sent them in their way. Usually I agree w/ the State trooper but this was over kill. But that’s Nashville for ya!! What did the young man do to cause him to be hand cuffed& put in the back of the police car? My opinion here but I think this should have been handled a little differently maybe. I just think that was a very good opportunity to build a little bridge there , what would have been wrong in getting them out and talking to them , allowing him to call someone to come get him and the car and take them home ? The car was clear , there were no warrants , they were both nothing except respectful the entire time and no other drug or Alcohol issues at all. So he admitted that he had smoked but I have to think that when he saw the blue lights come on behind him , by the time he gets out of his car he's completely Sober , I mean that had to be a buzz kill right. So rather than hemming him up with an arrest and tickets which will make it even more difficult for him to get his DL , I think the officer missed a very teachable moment for both young people
