Defensive highlights of the elusive pressure fighting former Light-Heavyweight and Cruiserweight champ.
For questions or requests Email at: hanzagod@mail.com
Dwight Muhammad Qawi - Is an American former professional boxer who won world titles at light heavyweight and cruiserweight. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2004. On December 19 of the same year, Braxton faced Saad Muhammad in Atlantic City. The ex-convict was the underdog against Saad, one of the most popular fighters of his generation and a fellow Hall of Famer, but Braxton defeated him on a 10th-round technical knockout and became a world champion for the first time. It was shortly after this that he announced his conversion to Islam and changed his name.

The only thing that stopped him from winning that fight was a well placed body shot from Foreman. I really saw Dwight being able to win that fight if he would have kept going. Also even though that was “old George”, he was in shape almost similar to his prime days.

Why didn`t L.Spinks punch him to the body when he poked his chin out Calzaghe style? Do you think Qawi could have done that to Jones? It was the worst night of my life! Do you think a light heavy who was a dangerous and powerful as Foreman could have beat Qawi? Kind of a pound for pound fight.

@WarEnjoyer-gm5yh
@WarEnjoyer-gm5yh Жыл бұрын
@@davidfitzgerald4683 Tyson was an aggressive counter puncher, not a pressure fighter. The difference is that a pressure fighter like Qawi is constantly going forward and initiating the attack, exchanging in very close range. Aggressive counter punchers like Tyson usually wait for their opponent to throw a shot, and then they come right back with a swarming barrage. Very similar, but also very different.
@Alex-cw3rz
@Alex-cw3rz Жыл бұрын
@@WarEnjoyer-gm5yh Mike Tyson was an inside boxer not a counter puncher, he would counter punch, of course, but he was an inside boxer, qawi counter punches in almost every single one of the clips here but is obviously a pressure fighter as that's his style. Canelo would be described as a counter puncher in style as he waits 8 rounds to throw a fight ending counter. Whereas Tyson would jump on the inside as soon as the fight started normally exploiting their punch but that is not being a counter puncher.
@WarEnjoyer-gm5yh
@WarEnjoyer-gm5yh Жыл бұрын
@@Alex-cw3rz He was what is called an "aggressive counter puncher". Inside fighting relies on staying close at all times, exchanging blows, a hellacious work rate, and a lot of bodywork. Tyson could be aggressive with efficiency but its not what made him what he is. He was at his best when he waited for an opponent to attack first. Waiting for a shot, usually evading it with explosive head movement, and firing back in combinations with full power and speed. His style was suited for early round KO's because his body was very explosive, and because he had asthma. He could not keep the same explosiveness in the first 6 rounds and take it into the later ones. Qawi was all out pressure, his style required conditioning. It was more based off of his ability to wear down his opponents with hard jabs and body shots and then finish them instead of a quick KO with power and speed. Tyson could be a pressure fighter and Qawi could be a counter-puncher because they were both good well rounded boxers, but their styles were built upon what they were better at and naturally suited for.
